HOW TO GET SIGNED:
Its very simple. Show a record label that you do not need them. Day after Day I get tons of messages asking me to listen to their music. I also get artists and bands wanting to get signed. So, here are the rules:
A. Do NOT submit less than commercial quality recordings to labels. These days are over. Trust Me. Labels do NOT have the budget to sign bands and fix them.
B. Labels look for bands that have product ready to go. They look for bands that have professionally produced cd's and can sell. They are also more likely to sign a band and buyout their current album.
C. Believe in yourself enough to get a recording done right. Otherwise, why should they believe in you. It may cost more, however the payoff can be very rewarding. Producers and labels do NOT have the money anymore to invest in bands. So, this is where you have to step up and be their business partner. Make them an offer they cannot refuse. A 50/50 Split Usually Works Well. Everyone Wins.
D. Do NOT use the ,"We do not have the money," excuse. Successful bands FIND the money. Rather its parents, job, grant, gift, car washes, shows, etc.....In Other words, WORK for it. The music industry has changed and we do NOT and will NOT invest in bands that are not capable of making it happen on their own. PERIOD.
E. Do NOT produce it yourself. Producers have years of experience and have much more experience than you. Trust Me.
F. Hire Professional Mixing and Mastering Engineers...PLEASE. You will do yourself and the concept of what we call, "MUSIC." a big favor.
G. Appreciate a Good Wav File...MP3's are convenient. However, musicians and the younger generation fans are destroying their ears. The worse it sounds, the more the NORM shifts. Now, we are left with less than acceptable recordings.
F. Make the label think that you do not need them to succeed. They will beg for you.
