About Me

About Me
I'm a writer, happily married and surviving in Southern California. I’ve lived in southern California all my life, and enjoy it for the most part. I think that LA is interesting to visit, but I’m glad I don’t live there. Still not sure how I feel about earthquakes.
About My Blog -
My blog is dedicated to storytelling in all its forms. I usually write about a book I’ve read, a movie or television show I’ve watched or even a CD I listened to. I post my thoughts about the topic and then ask for readers opinions on it. I update the blog weekly.
Stop on by, give it a read and post your opinions. I try to read and reply to each opinion. I may also add a bit of short fiction (usually of the surreal humor variety), and would love your feedback.
You can also access my blog outside of MySpace on http://roman-martel.blogspot.com (for some reason MySpace hates my link to the site).

More About Me Updated 7/6/9.
I've been in one car accident. It was a pretty frightening experience. I was told that if anyone was in the passenger seat, they would have been killed.
My History as a Writer
I’ve been interested in storytelling for as long as I can remember. I actually decided to be a writer back in elementary school. I co-authored a book back in 5th grade called “Who - The Greatest Mystery Ever Told”. My partner had a P.T. Barnum point of view and decided that a little exaggeration wouldn’t hurt our shot at winning the young writers award for our class. Unfortunately it didn’t work. So we switched to fan fiction about Transformers and other 80’s toys. Ah the good ol’ days.
I didn’t actually complete a large work of fiction till my final year in University. I took a screenwriting class and came up with a dark and twisted tale about a hit man hired by a demonic force. It was inspired by David Lynch and lots of 80’s music. Upon finishing that little opus I realized that I enjoyed doing it and that maybe working on some novels would be the next step.
I’ve been writing genre fiction ever since. I’ve dabbled in sci-fi, full blown fantasy and horror, enjoying each taste. I continue to work on fiction (both novels and short stories) and I’m actively looking to get my work out there for everyone to read.
When I’m not working on my fiction or websites, I work for a major bank writing and editing their polices and procedures. Sure it’s a bit dry, but I’ve learned a lot in that job, especially time management and ruthless editing techniques.
I’ve also written a whole mess of reviews of Japanese animation. I was a staff writer and reviewer for mania.com back when it was animeondvd.com for nearly five years (1998 - 2002). I wrote for the sci-fi channel when they were attempting an entire site dedicated to Japanese animation (sadly the project never completely got off the ground). Finally I was a contributing author for Andy Mangels’ book Animation on DVD which is available at your local bookstore or on-line.
