At the end of 2002, Headshots debut EP ’Rooms Within Rooms’ was voted one of the top 5 Australian releases of the year by the listeners of Triple Js Full Metal Racket program. The Perth outfit backed this up with a highly successful national tour in 2003 which took them to Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney, solidifying their position as one of Australias most ferocious and innovative heavy rock acts.
Then in early 2004 came the announcement that Headshot were calling it a day. Thankfully though, they had no wish to depart quietly and decided to record one final EP for posterity before disbanding - ’451’, a release that the band themselves believe to be the strongest thing they ever recorded.
The title track is loosely based on the Ray Bradbury novel ’Farenheit 451’, a disturbing vision of a future society that was written in the mid-20th century as a cautionary tale. A vision that in many ways has been realised in the early days of the 21st century.
Headshot may be gone but ’451’ leaves no doubt that their legacy will have aftershocks for many years to come, encapsulating all that came before it as well as giving a powerful glimpse of what might have been.
