This Page is to raise awareness of the Barn Owl Bill Trust and Barn Owl Bill Owl sanctuary and Bird of Prey Rescue Centre based in the North West of England.
In 1988 Bill took in his first barn owl, from then onwards the RSPCA,RSPB,local constabulary and members of the public began asking Bill to take in birds found injured or orphaned. Soon Bill became known as Barn Owl Bill and trust has continued under this name.
We are a small but essential charitable trust who receive no government funding and rely entirely on the kindness of the general public and businesses. Our only other source of revenue comes from the educational displays that we carry out throughout the North West, which along with enabling us to care for our owls creates an educational and thoroughly enjoyable experience for the public, particularly those who are disabled, disadvantaged or terminally ill. Educating the public about the plight of Birds of Prey and Owls is a high priority for Barn Owl Bill. Very few people know that many birds of prey are actually now classed as endangered species.
The birds used in Barn Owl Bill’s displays have been rescued from an early age and are therefore very tame and safe for all types of audience.
Not only do we aim to educate the public about these beautiful animals but also to care for sick and injured birds and are on call 24 hours a day 365 days a year and never refuse a rescue. At this point in time we have over 90 resident birds and all monies raised are used towards their feeding, housing and veterinary care. The Barn Owl Bill sanctuary cares for any bird of prey brought to it’s attention by members of the public or any other organisation.
2 out of 3 rescued birds are released back into the wild with a 98% success rate.
Any birds that cannot be released are looked after at the snctuary and we try to help them live out a long and happy life!
The bulk of the work at the Sanctuary is organised and carried out by Bill. Unfortunately, he has been suffering with Multiple Sclerosis and Cervical Spondolosis for the last twenty years. This means that when he is suffering from an episode the Sanctuary is totally reliant on the help of our committed volunteers..
All birds are treated with respect and reverence and cared for under full vetenary supervision.
