Meet the production/mixing team of
Jeff & Ginge, co-owners of Newport based
Nott-In-Pill Studios (contact info below).
While Jeff & Ginge may seem relatively new to the production/mixing scene, these song-writer/musicians initially spent a number of years learning their craft from the other side of the console. Having been in successful bands such as The Blood Brothers, Dub War and Skindred, the duo had the opportunity to work in various world-class studios with producers such as Bryan Chuck New, Paul Schroeder, Mike Plotnikoff, Howard Benson and Rick Will.
It was during a session with Howard Benson that the inspiration to produce/mix hit the guys. Ginge recalls, "after seeing the drums being edited in Pro-Tools I decided that is what I want to do." Being absolutely serious and committed in their inspiration, the guys quit Skindred to pursue a career in production. In 2002 Jeff & Ginge both attended Glamorgan University's Music Technology degree course and then promptly set up Nott-In-Pill Studios in Wales.
From their Nott-In-Pill Studios, Jeff & Ginge have gone on to work with many of the UK's finest bands, including Bullet For My Valentine, Funeral For A Friend, Skindred, As Silence Falls and many more. They have also done several live sessions for Radio One and secured all of the live sessions for Radio Wales' Adam Walton show.
When producer/mixer Colin Richardson (Bullet For My Valentine, As I Lay Dying, Trivium, Slipknot, Machine Head, Funeral For A Friend) was looking for a studio in Wales to do vocal sessions for the new Bullet For My Valentine album, the BFMV guys suggested Nott-In-Pill as they had done a Kerrang! track there with Jeff & Ginge. Not only did Jeff & Ginge end up engineering all of the vocal sessions on the new BFMV album, they also worked with Colin on the recording of some of the drums, bass and guitars. Colin was so impressed with Jeff & Ginge - both as people and as talents - that he urged his manager of 16 years to take them on. As such, the guys are now under the management of Lora Richardson.
