This fierce and uncut singer/songwriter is on the rise! Melody, a midwestern girl from Omaha, Nebraska, has the full package, with her ability to captivate with her lyrics and mesmerize with her voice . Melody started singing before she could even speak. "Music is my life. I write better than I speak. In my music you can trace the journey of my life experiences. I feel like God has a plan for me. I feel so blessed and want to be able to share what i do with the world!!"
Melody was first inspired by her parents who introduced her to what music was all about . Her mother who sings and her father who plays the piano and percussion were honored at one point in their careers to have worked with some of the best people in the music business including opening for James Brown, Pamela Williams and Jennifer Holliday. "Growing up, I would laugh and call us the Partridge Family, because someone was always singing, playing, rehearsing or blasting tunes. Quite frankly, I don't know what it's like to step into my house and not hear music. I never really thought about it, but that would be weird!" Melody says. Her vocal inspirations start with her mother, a gospel and soul singer who could "make you cry by singing the abc's" says Melody, and include the greats like Gladys Knight, Donny Hathaway, Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross, and of course the undeniable Prince. Even a younger generation such as Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, John Mayer, Justin Timberlake, and Beyonce became her motivation.
"I got into a lot of trouble when I was younger." Melody says, "I think it may have been the only child in me, but I grew up pretty fast and went through a lot of things I consider necessary. What always brought me back to center was music." Her spirituality keeps her motivated to do better and to inspire others.
Melody has always turned to music for strength and writing songs to express and convey her feelings. Her parents recall her writing songs as early as 7 years old. Music has helped her get through some difficult times. She strongly believes that music is a universal language that can reach anyone.
When asked what differentiates her from other new singers she states, "It's not about being famous or blowing up fast. I was born with this passion for music. Its in my blood and bones. I was singing before I could talk. I sing, write and play the piano. It is my craft. This is what I was born to do. My hope is that when people listen to my music they feel like I wrote that song just for them, and they know they aren't going through life alone. I have been through a lot and felt a lot of pain, but I always try to find the light at the end of the tunnel, learn from it and move it! I want to be able to tell that story so (you) feel empowered to overcome any obstacle that stands in (your) way."
"No matter what you are going through, you always have to keep the faith and at the end of the day know who you are and be true to yourself. Things will pull you down, but you have to know what your morals and values are and how to keep them. I choose to walk by faith and not by sight... that's how I live my life... "
"IT'S INEVITABLE, WE ALL, AT SOME POINT WILL FALL, IT'S HOW YOU PICK YOURSELF UP THAT MAKES US WHO WE ARE..." -M
Bio’s are great. They build you up to be superhuman, like a superhero or something… triumphs, failure, lessons learned...but they don’t give the breakdown the character of the person. I guess here’s my story.
I’m on only child that’s beautifully flawed. I wear my heart on my sleeve and have cried enough tears to rightfully have an ocean named in my honor. My instincts always tell me to nurture and my heart doesn’t know how to hold a grudge. I’m a hopeless romantic that is much better with writing my feelings than speaking them. I’m complex and often difficult. I love to love and be loved in return. I’m a homebody that would much rather spend a Saturday night in bed reading a good book or watching a movie then being out in the social scene. I’m not anti social… just comfortable being alone. I’m independent and a free spirit. I grew up in a home with musicians for parents… I think in colors and abstract words that don’t always make sense to you, but makes perfect sense to me. I tend to skip over details and race toward the big picture… Family is where my heart is. I make music, and music makes me… we tick in synchronization together, and I’d like to think we keep each other sane. Despite my more somber exterior, i love to laugh and play.... if you can keep me laughing... we're friends for life:) I’m just me, and I’m comfortable being me… I’ve been through a lot, just like you. I’m blessed to be able to share my stories through music. It frees me. I know when I listen to music, I feel like certain songs are speaking right to my heart… that’s what I hope I can do for you… Music is my life and my therapy. I think that says it all..
