Justin Scott

About Me

Born in Queens, New York, U.S.A. Justin Scott was exposed to the underground music scene from an early age. He moved to South Florida while still young, and was introduced to Electronic Music in 1994. Not long after he was given his first pair of turntables and his life would never be the same. Justin Scott's early influences ranged along the entire gamut, from the Rolling Stones to Eazy-E. He became a sought after breaks DJ and has played on bills along side the likes of Afrika Bambaataa, Busta Rhymes, Ritchie Hawtin, Exzact and Dynamix II, just to name a few. He made a brief move to Orlando to pursue an Audio Engineering degree, and after graduating, returned to South Florida. Justin Scott's genre shifted near the end of the century towards Jungle/DnB, and his skills transferred well. Using his substantial contacts in the music industry, Justin Scott is well known for his cutting edge mixes, showcasing the latest tracks by the hottest artists in the world. Working along side Dan "Theory" Warren, one half of the legendary P.A. Trip Theory and a co-founder of The Spacemen, Justin Scott has been producing tracks for several years, between playing events under several pseudonyms. Using his home studio and the renowned Miami Beach Recording Studios, Justin Scott has produced over 90 individual tracks and released 4 full-length cd's in addition to his countless promos. After many collaborations with fellow artists, he and longtime friend DJ Mekka started Resinated Plates, a record label consisting of artists from all over the globe, but whose primary focus is in the Southeast United States. Resinated Plates is on the forefront of signing and promoting new talent, as well as expanding currently signed artists' horizons. Justin Scott's involvement with R.P.U.S.A. has gained him even more relationships within the industry, creating a constant request for collaborations and bookings. Justin Scott feels that most music being played today is lacking a true musical element-the tonality and warmth that defines music. Electronic music itself poses a bigger challenge in achieving this because the very nature of electronic music production is impersonal. Behind every set on the turntables and every session in the studio lies Justin Scott's desire for music to be able to reach not only the expecting veteran listeners but also the unsuspecting newcomers to the experiences that electronic music can bring. His hopes are that electronic music can be appreciated for what it is-music! Too often, electronic music is considered just for its head nodding sounds backed by hard beats. Justin Scott likes floor-friendly tracks in doses, but finds his true voice in harder-edged tunes that give not only warmth but also have remarkable musical quality as well. By keeping his listeners actively involved in his mixes and performances, he forces them to not merely listen to the music, but hear all the aspects of that music: the depth, warmth, tonality and passion that went into its creation, thereby imparting upon them the emotion to be found in superb tracks. Justin Scott feels the direction of electronic music is changing from the current creation methods to those that combine live musical instruments with the traditional electronic elements, citing such artists as Bjork, Hybrid and Tortoise as being some of the pioneers of this new sound.
