About Me

Born on a small Island in the Bahamas, Avaran’s first run in with reggae was at the age of six after Bob Marley had visited the Bahamas on tour. Fast forward to 1996 as Avaran first appears on the Reggae scene cutting a few specials for a Miami sound system out of Bimini, Cancer Hi-Power an upcoming sound, this would be instrumental in helping Avaran in his early career. “No Part of It” the first domestic release did not receive much recognition, so he headed back to the drawing board with a follow-up release “Only Jah”. This song received a substantial amount of airplay Internationally and was also featured on the compilation album “New Era Reggae” (Gator/Meditation) which included Dennis Brown, Freddie McGreggor, John Holt, and Mykal Rose just to name a few. “Avaran – a male singer who provides one of the best songs on the album with the righteous dancehall single of “Only Jah” puts forth an admirable effort” and “ Avaran definitely comes from the Garnett Silk school of singers, with his emotional wail and mix of modern roots and dancehall echoing the late great Silk” as quoted by Reggae Review. Avaran’s first stage show was in July of 1997 when he opened for famed African Reggae singer Lucky Dube.In 1997 Avaran’s debut album “Short Rope” took form and in October of the same year he opened for The Messenger Luciano and Sizzla Kolongi on Miami Beach Florida. The response was explosive as Avaran had many of his hometown folks in the crowd that night, and in mid 1998 he shared the stage with Capelton, Anthony B and Yami Bolo.In early 1999 Avaran traveled to Jamaica where he appeared on both Heineken Startime stage shows in Kingston as well as Mandeville, opening for John Holt and a host of foundation artists. Avaran left Jamaica with a feeling that something great was to come.In late 1999 Avaran finished his debut album and was to be showcased as a performer on the Midem Music Conference, Caanes France in January 2000 where he shared the stage with Beres Hammond, Half Pint and Rapper Dougie Fresh. Avaran’s performance was spectacular and it secured a distribution deal for “Short Rope” in the United States.Avaran then headed to Lyons France where he joined then former Black Uhuru lead singer, Mykal Rose, and together they toured Germany, Holland, and Belgium. This tour secured distribution deals in parts of Europe. In 2001 Avaran’s label, Meditation Records no longer had the financial backing needed to further Avaran’s career and he was forced to take a back seat in the reggae fraternity. Now in 2007, Avaran is re-emerging into the reggae forum as evident with his new single “Let Jah Be Praised” and the chilling performances in Europe. It was there that a hungry crowd which some had never before seen the artist perform were left in a frenzy singing songs they were hearing for the first time and left wanting more. This Artist is a must see for those who know of him and for those who will.
