Shallow Howl

About Me

Shallow Howl formed in March 2002 as Todd Dalzell (guitar and vocals), Jon O'Hara (bass and vocals) and Jason Marsh (drums and vocals). This line up began production work on a self-titled album in 2004. Amid work on this album, Jon O'hara was taken from us by cancer in May 2005. In honor of Jon, the band continued work on the album that features Jon and other musicians that have become members of the Shallow Howl family. The bass player that stepped into the bass and vocal role after Jon passed away is Joshua Kehrli. Joshua remains an influential member of the band . Although the loss of Jon was difficult the band regrouped and expanded its musical ventures by writing additional original material and working with many fine local muscians. Local musicians that have become extend family members of Shallow Howl family members include bassist Brian Roberts, keyboardist Kelly Brown, Keyboardist Dan Maple, Bassist Lou Whitney, guitarist Shawn Eckles, Guitarist Steve Newman, keyboardist Joe Sala, drummer Ryan Sala, vocalist-drummer-harmonica player David Ellis, guitarist-vocalist Jim Rae, keyboardist-vocalist-guitarist-mandolinist Brandon Moore. The Shallow Howl album was released in the Fall of 2006 and features many of the musicians mentioned above. This album contains 8 original arrangements and two covers. The album was recorded in Springfield, Missouri with legendary recording engineer Lou Whitney. By the way, Lou Whitney is largely responsible for the longevity of Shallow Howl. Basically, Lou provided inspiration via his motivational skills, creative talents and kind personality that enabled the band to rebirth after the loss of Jon O'hara. The album has been very well received and is a must have if you collect local musicians work. The bands most recent blessings were the addition of Dustin "Duk" Rehagen and Dave Harp. Dustin became a full time band member in September 2007. Dustin plays keys and sings and will be trading off on bass and keys when Joshua and Todd are switching off on bass and guitar.Jason Marsh is a founding member of Shallow Howl. His contributions will alway be a part of this project. It is rare to find such natural talents with no formal training. We are proud of our Howler Brother Jason and look forward to working with him in the future.Drummer, vocalist and mandolin player Dave Harp, formerly of the Arkamo Rangers and current drummer for Uncle Riko's Time Machine and Shine Brighter, has played gigs with Shallow Howl in 2008. Emmerson Spiller and Ryan Sala have also contributed to some drumming gigs with Shallow Howl.In planning for gigs in Spring 2009, the band will be rejoined by founding drummer Jason Marsh.
