Yumari M. Vazquez

About Me

Yumari was born into a musical family in New York City In 1972, and discovered at an early age that music also ran through his veins. Yumari's father was an established local musician (Timbalero) who was known for being hot tempered while performing in night clubs throughout the 1970's. Yumari's mother would occasionally join her huband on stage by playing the maracas and singing back up vocals. As a youngster, Yumari picked up a pair of sticks and taught himself how to play the drums, as means of staying out of trouble on the tuff streets of Brooklyn. Around the same time, Yumari mastered the art of mixing records at the age of 9, and would soon earn his street creds by battling the big boys on the wheels of steel. In his late-teens Yumari formed a rock band called Mascarade, and also began to compose dance music during the freeystyle explosion of the mid 1980's. It was then, when he began to experiment with a keyboard for the first time . As Yumari began to grow musically, he gravitated towards percussion and before long found himself studying under the direction of world renowned Percussionists (Timbalero), Band Leader and Professional Actor Ralph Irizarry. Yumari moved on to fine tune his style and earned a reputation for his impeccable timing and incredible musical ear, which would land him several spots playing percussion for some real heavy weights throughout the 90's. Inspired by composers Hans Zimmer and John Williams, Yumari took a shot at scoring a friend's independent film and discovered that he had a natural gift for composing and arrangeing complex orchestral music despite his lack of professional training in music theory and music notation. Armed only with a 61 key Korg Triton Work Station and a pair of reference monitors (no plug Ins, samples, software or hard equipment), Yumari went to work from 2004 to 2006 and created some of his best work to date, some of which could be heard as raw snippets on this page. Yumari currently has 33 film score compositions under his belt which he plans to lengthen and re-record in the future, utilizing virtual instruments and a live symphonic orchestra. When Yumari is not on the road or working on a film project, you could find him composing some of the hottest tracks in the biz ranging from Hip Hop, R&B and Reggae. With a positive attitude in tack, this native New Yorker remains humble, and is ready and eager to make his mark by joining the ranks of elite composers in the business of Music, Film, TV and Broadway.
