Influences: *Paabel* is an idea, an attempt to approach traditional music with an open mind,
drawing inspiration on the synergy of the band. The ensemble has five members,
four of them study jazz music and one is a traditional music student. The
ensemble came into being when in the spring of 2007 our traditional music
student Sandra had an idea to participate in Põlva Folk Music Arrangements
Festival. The project with four jazz musicians gained momentum after returning
from Põlva with the highest prize awarded.
Our music is a strong symbiosis of traditional that has had impact from jazz
and rock music mainly. It is born as a joint creation. Many of our pieces
contain several smaller old instrumental tunes or songs that are interrelated.
We aim at making the kind of music that we ourselves would like to listen to
and enjoy - the pleasure of playing together and satisfaction are of primary
importance.
