About Me

Updates: My diet has been going well, alcohol only with friends; soda only when I enter caffeine withdraw at home. The sad thing is that I have been putting on weight despite eating less as well.
There is no such thing as coincidence, just the illusion of coincidence itself.
"Always play with their minds."
"I can categorically say that you are not a bigger banana-head."
I just happen to be one of the rarest things you can find, a third generation Floridian... not only that but I can not tan so I can reflect the moonlight. Despite being raised in the literal center of the state and middle of nowhere, I do not have a southern accent (although the redneck nature is still a big part of me). I still call the woods home, even though people have started moving out toward where I live (danged urban sprawl), and I am quite glad the State made the area between my neighborhood and the River a Wildlife preserve. Being raised in the woods has left me to be a bit of a purist and I try to keep things as simple as possible (as you can currently witness by looking at my page, I don't really feel the need to "pimp" it).
I can not stand being bored, leaves me with too much to do and not enough time or money to do anything truly fun.
I had Cancer starting way back in 1994, and it predominated my life, to the fact that I have a unique perspective on life; this philosophy extends into every aspect of my life and frequently alienates everyone from me (either that or my aura of Nerd). Apparently some people tend to get a bad read off of me and think I am the standard immature 20 something male, but as those who know me are aware that is far from the case.
I currently work touching the minds of today's slightly more educated, sometimes it does not seem that way. Teaching at a college and working towards an NSF Grant to make the school a premier institution occupies much of my time these days, but it is air conditioned work that doesn't require me to sit on a phone or computer all day (I just choose to spend much of the time in front of the computer).

My Interests

My Live Journal
Wikipedia

I'd like to meet:

In the philosophical sense: I don't know.
In real life: interesting, intelligent people to talk to, maybe hang out with, who really knows.
Anyone that can answer these questions correctly:
1. Who are you?
2. What do you want?
3. Where are you going?
4. Who do you serve and who do you trust?

Music:

I have really eclectic taste, but I tend to avoid Emo and New School Rap (Hip hop), oh and I detest BubbleGum!

Movies:

Just any that are good, quality films, films that don't smell like month old garbage...

Television:

Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, Doctor Who, Firefly, Good Eats, Iron Chef, Ham on the Street, Heroes, House, Lost, NCIS, CSI's when bored, Full Metal Alchemist, S-Cry-ed, Futurama, Eureka, Bleach, the occasional reality show,

Books:

"My preciousss, Give its." Lord of the Rings (just finished my 23rd time through them), Most fantasy works by such great authors as RA Salvatore, Ed Greenwood, Terry Brooks, Sara Douglass.
Text books for some reason
Classic novels, romantic lit (no not the books with half naked people on the covers), Naturalistic works, the poetry of Frost and a few others. Vonnegut and Catch 22 and other just off the wall literature.
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when my fear is gone, I will turn and face fears path, and only I will remain." ~Paul Atreides Dune
