Weber Lopes

Born in Guanhães, Minas Gerais, Weber Lopes presents in his musical curriculum a course of intense activity and musical knowledge. Considered by the critics one of the principal Brazilian guitar players, Weber Lopes’ trajectory demonstrates intense activity and musical recognition, whether performing in Brazil for international audiences. The importance of his work is demonstrated in the words of Hermano Vianna, National Curator of Musical Paths of Itaú Cultural Center: “Here before these works based on stringed instruments... I think we have already arrived at a moment when new roads begin to be tested in the Minas Gerais of Weber Lopes...”. He has played, in shows and recordings, beside Toninho Horta, Sebastião Tapajós, Yamandú Costa Toninho Ferragutti, Benjamin Taubkin, Hamilton de Holanda and Nivaldo Ornelas, among others.In Brazil, he has participated in important projects. Abroad, he has toured in such countries as the United Arab Emirates, Italy, Lithuania, Finland, France, Germany and Switzerland.Weber has twice won consideration for the Pró-Música award for music in Minas Gerais: as an instrumentalist in 1998, and in 2000 for best CD (Violões do Horizonte). In 2001 he was a semi-finalist in the IV VISA Awards for Brazilian Music - Instrumental Category. In 2004 he was awarded the IV BDMG Award for Instrumental Music.In 1999 he launched his first solo CD, “Flor do Tempo”, achieving great success among both the public and critics.. The CD entered the TopTen list in the press specializing in Jazz, alongside names including Nivaldo Ornelas, Pat Metheny and Joshua Redman. In 2001, he was selected for “Projeto Rumos Musicais”, and was featured on the CD “Cartografia Musical Brasileira”, which sprang from this project. He has just launched his second CD, “MAPA”, which displays his talent as an instrumentalist and composer.
