About Me
self-taught music fiend, began 'playing' instruments around age 9...never joined school band or anything like that- preferred to experiment at home using cheap-ass computer programs and acoustic guitar rigged with a telephone mic and cranked to feedback through a home stereo.
Played in several 'groups' from late-teens to mid-20's, as a drummer, bassist, guitarist/vocalist, tape manipulator, etc.
TIME SPENT PLAYING WITH OTHERS:
Started as a drummer in various noise-rock combos, such as GLORYHOLE, Trashed Infant, Real Meat, Monkeychuck, and Obligatory Niggers. Simultaneous with Monkeychuck, I was vocalist for BigFatCat.After all or most of my musical comrades moved to Atlanta, I reverted to recording by myself, under the name Crucial Fiction. When my brother moved back into FL, we formed Orange Claw Hammer, with Frank Tucciarone on the drums, and myself on guitar/vocals. This lineup gradually morphed into MYOPIA, with the departure of Frank and the enlisting of Billy Drake on guitar, and Shane Carwile on drums. (both former Jock-Offs)
Also at this time was born THE MIGHTY CAT MACHINE! (see www.myspace.com/themightycatmachine) An ongoing collective which basically consisted of Ed Jeleniewski, my brother Joel, and I with various others coming in and out of the lineup. Mostly a Sunday afternoon 'tank up on weed, and whateverelse, and record a 90-minute cassette, in ok, 1,2,3,GO!-style.
Towards the end of Myopia's era, I took to recording lots of 4trk material under the name of BONESHAKER, with my friends Vance Burdge and Francis Bohn...this evolved into KIKE, which became CENTRIFUGE (both of which are commemorated, here on MySpace)Around this time, I began playing with Gare Koloszar on keyboards in an all-instrumental project called THIRD EYE. Programmed beats, with live bass, and found sounds and synths.
During this time I REALLY lost my mind...the details of which if you know me, you know...if you wanna know, ASK.
Came back from my mental breakdown...gradually started accumulating instruments again, began home-taping cassettes of cheapshit electro/sampled lo-fi stuff, under the moniker of BLACK EYE. Made several individual copy tapes, and gave them to specific people...if I ever gave you one, it's the ONLY one there is. Got more interested in the pure sound format...began performing at open-mic nights, with a tapedeck playing pre-recorded backbeats, and one or two thrift-store turntables, run through multiple effects...this led to my playing a couple of one-off gigs, doing the processed turntable stuff, with SPACE FAIRY, and another combo whose name escapes me.(in spite of the fact that the one show we did was REALLY good- the kind where at the end of each number, the whole group looks around at each other, like-what the hell just happened??Eventually got bored with THAT, (though I still enjoy the HELL out of doing it)and went back to writing conventional 'guitar-based' songs. Picked up a record, back when I was doing the freestylesound(PSYCHOPHONICK), which featured Admiral Stereo's latest invention= The PHANTOM THIRD Channel.
I dug the sound of it, minus the 'channel';reminded me of '60s-era garage psych, like the Unrelated Segments, The Count Five, etc.......and here we are.*****After finding several other folks using the Phantom Third moniker, I have switched to a name I have wanted to use for a long while...in honor of Edward Mordrake, who was born with a face on the back of his head.
