The Beginning - Voluspaa
Ashmadia was born in the autumn 2007 as a result of Hekla and Huginn wanting to start a metal band. It was started in the wish of having fun and working on a common passion, at the same time as developing their skills on their instruments.
Huginn had been playing the violin for about 10 years at the time (electric violin for 6 years), piano on and off for a while, and a bit experimenting with guitars. She was quite new to drums, but had also been playing that on and off for a while, partly due to not having a proper drum kit. Finally she decided to go for it and bought a Pearl Export kit and started practicing every day. Hekla was also pretty new to her instrument at the starting of the band, but had earlier been vocalist in bands such as Namida and Introducing the Dead.
They got a vocalist, Nina, and a bassist, Ivana, both that through the band had their first encounter with black metal. The idea at first was making a parody band, which resulted in their first song, Fishcrush, as a parody of Mayhem's Deathcrush. Later they decided to go more serious, and split with the parody image.
2. March 2008 the band played their first concert at Metropolis, together with the black metal band Drazylium , and melodic metal band Atropos . Michael, later to be their vocalist was on stage as part of Ashmadia's scene show.
In the summer of 2008 both Nina and Ivana quit due to not having enough time. Almost immediately they got a new vocalist, Michael, who also sings in the parody band Mannepenis . At this time Huginn and Michael started co-operating at writing Ashmadia's new lyrics. In late February 2009 an earlier class mate of Huginn, Krister, made his appearence as the new bassist in the band. With a background at playing jazz and funk he put in some new creativity. But he also quickly found the tone with the rest of the band at playing metal.
At the moment Ashmadia is planning on playing a demo that will be out in 2009. The demo will involve songs as Blinded by Religion (original band cut), The Black Storms, The Rivers of Sin, and their new cover version of Mayhem's Deathcrush.
The band name was suggested bu Huginn (more info further down) quite early and has stayed the same forever since.
Lyrics are mainly about religion (anti-religious) and death.
The name Ashmadia
-A spelling variation of Asmodai or Asmodeus.
-Binsfeld's classification of demons (1589), based on the seven deadly sins: Asmodeus, demon of lust.
-Michaelis' classification of demons (1613), First Hierachy: Asmodai, demon of lust.
-In The Book of Thobit Asmodeus seem to be a demon characterized by carnal desire; but he is also described as an evil spirit in general.
-The figure of Ashmedai in the Talmud is less harmful in character than Tobit's Asmodeus. In the former, he appears repeatedly in the light of a good-natured and humorous fellow. But besides that, there is one feature in which he parallels Asmodeus, inasmuch as his desires turn upon Solomon's wives and Bath-sheba.
-In the Malleus Maleficarum (1486), Asmodai was considered the demon of lust, to which agreed Sebastian Michaelis saying that his adversary is St. John. Some demonologists of the 16th century assigned each month to a demon and considered November to be the month in which Asmodai's power was stronger. Other demonologists asserted that his zodiacal sign was Aquarius but only between the dates of January 30th and February 8th. He has seventy-two legions of demons under his command. He is one of the Kings of Hell under Lucifer the emperor. He incites gambling, and is the overseer of all the gambling houses in the court of Hell. Some Catholic theologians compared him with Abaddon. Yet other authors considered Asmodai a prince of revenge.
-The name 'Asmodai' is believed to derive from Avestan language *aeshma-daeva, where aeshma means "wrath", and daeva signifies "demon."
"Asmodeus is the demon of fornication, jealousy, anger and vengeance. His main mission is to prevent matrimonial sexual life, to destroy new marriages and support a man’s desire of other women. Asmodeus is also one of the demons causing obsession. He has always been considered as one of the most feared hell demons of Satan. In the seven deadly sins, Asmodeus is the demon of lechery.
To some authors this demon is considered a prince of revenge and protector of male homosexuals, homosexuality being one of his methods of seduction. He is depicted with the chest of a man, cock legs, serpent tail, three heads (one of a man spitting fire, one of a ram, and one of a bull), riding a lion with dragon wings and neck, all of these creatures being associated with either lasciviousness, lust or revenge."
