Influences: As a teenager, and beginning in my first rock band, I was blown away with Jim Morrison and the Doors. I had to get an organ and I really needed to learn those electic piano parts! Growing up in the mid-west, helped create my style, of Rhythm and Blues. I also spent hours daily practicing the classical piano repertoire. While in college, I loved the band "Pink Floyd". I practiced piano seriously while attending Ohio Universitys School of Music. As a student there, I had an amazing teacher from Nothern Sudan, who played the oud. His name was Hamza el Din. He opened doors to world music that I never new existed. On his recomendation I would end up at the University of Washington's, Ethnomusicology program. I loved the world music program. Every teacher I had the honor of studying with, broadened my musical world. They influenced me beyond words.
Piano players and composers that influence my love of music include, James Booker, Proffessor Longhair, Otis Spann, Thelonius Monk and Duke Ellington.
