Note: This profile has not been updated since October of '08. We will be updating it shortly. We currently are not housing any adoptable rats. All rats currently at Rats' Nest Rescue are in serious need of medical attention, which they are receiving, or have been adopted by our founders. We would love nothing more than to be able to save numerous rats in the not too distant future, though, and by donating a tiny bit of money to our cause you could save a life! Our goal is to raise enough money for spay and neuter fees and any other medical issues that may arrise by early October. Please help us reach that goal! Also, Rats' Nest Rescue plans on extending its services to the rescue of hamsters and mice as well. Thank you to everyone who has supported us in any way!
Rats are great pets. They are intelligent, social and loving beings who deserve the very best. Contrary to popular belief, rats are very neat animals and we recommend thoroughly cleaning their cages twice or three times per week. We are only willing to adopt out to individuals who have "rat homes" that allow each rat one square foot each or more. We will only adopt out pairs of rats unless there is proof that you will be homing your new rat with another. Again, rats are highly social beings and they must have a cagemate to live with, along with daily human contact. Rats love to climb, solve puzzles and make nests, so providing plently of mentally stimulating toys and obsticles is a must, as well as plenty of hideout spaces.
Rats can be excellent pets for virtually anyone; however, children should be supervised when interacting with their new furry companions. If you want a great first pet or if you want a 60th, rats are just flat-out awesome.
Please note that we do NOT at all support breeding. Our male rats will be neutered thanks to your donations, and you must promise that any adopted female rats will not be subject to pregnancy at any point during their lives.
Please help by donating to our cause!
