"The perfect timing is the beat of the heart, without it, there is no feel and no soul" In a versatile style and essence of musical genres, session drummer/percussionist, background vocalist & songwriter, AJ Moreno comes from a generation when popular music took a form of evolution in becoming a multi-diverse sound..the late 60's, 1970's & 1980's. Self tought and inspired in the art of drumming and constant study of world percussion instruments and the role it plays in various cultures. Born in "J-Town" Michigan, AJ became a music enthusiast at the young age of 5 picking up the sticks mimiking the rhythmic beats and patterns of all the popular radio hits of the early decade of the 1970's, including sitting stage side at venues learning & watching skilled drummers and thier bands perform live. During his teen years he developed a professional playing style performing in a cousin's 4 piece band playing weddings & festivals, during this period, the 80's decade was in full swing which ushered in a new era of Pop, Power Rock, R&B, Funk and Hip-Hop artists, including the birth of MTV! This new element and fusion of musical styles contributed to AJ's musical versatility, He has been a member of many past and present musical groups in the Hard Rock, Funk, Disco, Jazz & New Country genres. Encouraged and supported to move beyond the local boundaries working, touring, recording and collaborating with numerous up and coming artist projects throughout Detroit,MI.,Las Vegas, NV. and Nashville,TN. Most recently, he has teamed up with award winning producer/engineer/keyboardist/songwriter Rich Vogellehner in the creation and producing of new young Detroit area talent. Besides performing on stage, he is co-owner of a professional live sound & pro lighting company based in Mid-Michigan and handles duties on the business side of music for fellow artists. AJ's experience in cross-genre appeal, includes live drumming renditions of famed super group music catalogs such as JOURNEY, EARTH, WIND & FIRE, STYX, CHICAGO, TOWER OF POWER and a strong background in the Latin rhythms of Salsa, Cumbia, Conjunto & Tejano Music. He has had the opportunities to participate with opening acts for great artists such as Grand Funk Railroad, The Whispers, Eddie Money and Jo Dee Messina.
Currently, AJ will be writing & recording his first solo cd project for 2008 with various contributing artists from Detroit, MI., Nashville, TN. & Las Vegas, NV. in the styles of RetroRock, Ol'-Skool Funk & Contemporary Jazz."Passionate Heart" music video from the 2007 Danger's Callin' CD (Kristin Glasgow)
AJ has performed with various acts in the following Michigan venue establishments: Comerica Park, Michigan International Speedway, The Palace of Auburn Hills, Cobo Events Center, St. Andrews Hall, Greektown Casino, Soaring Eagle Casino, Baker's Keyboard Lounge.
