About Me
SHAWANDA sings with a depth and feel that is rarely heard in today’s music. Regardless of the style, the flavor, or the beat, Shawanda’s passion is the same. She comments, “Through my music, and all that I do, I want to motivate, encourage, and inspire people to be who they are, to accomplish their goals, and to dream super big. I want them to believe that all things are possible.â€Singing publicly since the age of 4, Shawanda’s smooth vocals and melodic rifts have moved audiences for over twenty years. In 1998 she embarked on her journey as a professional singer, songwriter, vocal arranger, and vocal coach.
In 2004, Shawanda moved to Charlotte, NC when she married Jamar Caldwell. The move to Charlotte enabled her to become involved with New Birth Charlotte, a church planted by Bishop Eddie L. Long, where Pastor Terrell L. Murphy is the Senior Pastor. When asked about her church and her pastor, she says, “Being under the leadership of Pastor Murphy has changed my life completely. His heart and passion for God inspires me to pursue God. In my pursuit, I have found Him to be more wonderful than I ever imagined.†She currently serves at New Birth as Choir Director and a member of the Tribe of Judah Worship Team.
Directing and working with small groups and choirs since the age of 16, Shawanda’s interests naturally progressed into the area of vocal coaching. In 2006 she began soundVois, a company specializing in vocal coaching and assessment. She is excited about her future in this area. She desires to equip, prepare, and motivate aspiring singers to pursue their dreams; not only in music, but in everything they’ve been called to do in life. “I believe that everyone has a purpose that must be fulfilled and that you are not living unless you are walking in what you have been called and destined to do.†Regarding her own life and achievements, she states, “My journey has taught me to trust God in all things and to be who I was created to be. My success in life lies in my ability to believe in myself and to live free from fear, worry, and intimidation.â€While serving diligently at New Birth Charlotte, Shawanda felt led to begin working on material that God had given her through the years. Those songs are coming together to form her initial solo project. An ingenious singer, songwriter, arranger, and coach, SHAWANDA, is certain to make her mark on the music industry and on the masses. Describing her aspirations for her career in music, Shawanda responds with a quote she offers to all aspiring artists, “Whatever your passion is, pursue it ---make it your reality!â€
