About Me

It has been said that Lisa Loeb (Amsterdam, 1989) could sing before she could talk. This may be a rumor but it is still an interesting story.
No, I’m just kidding but singing has always been my greatest passion. I've always been obsessed with it, it is something that seems to happen naturally to me. I already wrote my own songs when I was four, and when I was eight my teacher even gave me a singing prohibition. But you could still hear me singing in the back of the class, be it more quietly.
When I was eight I started taking piano lessons and I joined the children’s choir of the Amsterdamse Muziekschool. After a few months I switched to singing lessons in a group of four girls, which was a lot of fun. I sang mostly pop tunes and when I was twelve I also started singing opera (at an amateur level, but lots of fun and I could really "belt it out").
When I was fourteen, I got a new singing teacher (by that time I had switched to private lessons), who had just finished her master education Jazz singing at the Conservatory of Amsterdam: Anne Chris . She introduced me to jazz, and I've been hooked on it ever since. I never listened to jazz because it wasn't the kind of music my parents listen to (my mother is a die-hard classic music lover, my father is more the indie/alternative rock/pop kind of musiclover), but I loved it from the first time I sang "My funny Valentine". At the ending of that year I decided to audition for the young talent class of the Conservatory of Amsterdam, and I was admitted! I got lessons from Sylvi Lane, a great teacher and a huge inspiration. She taught me a lot about jazztiming, interpretation of a song and improvising. But the greatest thing she taught me is that you should always find your own connection to a song and try to share that with your audience.
After I finished high school in 2007 I was admitted to the pre-eliminary year of the Conservatory. At first I was disappointed because this would mean that I would only have lessons one day a week, but it turned out to be a great year! I had the time to learn, make a lot of music with my classmates and get a little older (and perhaps wiser). Sylvi remained my Interpretation teacher and I also got technique lessons from Elise Galama. This was not only useful but also a lot of fun because I got to sing crazy aria's and all kinds of classical music, which I love. I auditioned for the first year in may 2008 and I was admitted! In September I started my "Bachelor of Music" education.
And now? Now I'm studying music full time in the first year and I'm quite busy with my band. I've also started to write my own songs, which is great because it combines music with writing, which I also love!
