RBWorks Diary:
5/11/09 Radio Time. Fernando Dueñas of Baja Prog Radio (98.3 Mexicali, Mexico) has offered to start playing my music on their broadcast. I also did my first radio interview on 102.5 (Tijuana, Mexico) with Carlos Duarte yesterday, so its promotion time.
Don't forget to join us at The Bitter End on Wednesday June 10, at 7:45 PM for my cd release. Hope to see you there.
4/18/09 Cafe is now available at CD Baby (icon in page), as well as other music sites like iTunes, Amazon and Rhapsody. The day has come.
4/8/09 Tomorrow I will pick up my cds and will start promoting the project. I have no commitments so I am open to any offers, or suggestions.
To celebrate, I will be playing at
The Bitter End on Wednesday June 10, at 7:45 PM. I will be opening for several bands so it should be fun. I hope you can join me. I will soon make the cds available by internet through this site. Thanks for your support. Ricardo
3/20/09 Finally, after a little over two years, the cd is finished. I'm very proud of what we have accomplished. Whether my message will be understood or not is still to be seen.
Thanks for your support. Soon the cd will be available. Ricardo
2/9/09 Working on three songs at the same time has been fantastic. Here is the latest version of The Common Law. See ya ...
1/28/09 Paco finished the final drums for The Common Law. He gave it a type of American Indian beat, pretty interesting, but great to go with the lyrics of the song, especially when you consider that the law goes back to the days of Hammurabi (see Code of Hammurabi).
Best wishes to all, Ricardo
1/25/09 Today I finished my first edited music video featuring my song AELOHIM. I've uploaded it here ( ---> ) as well as in YouTube. Things are moving along very well, perfect timing. Everything should be ready by no later than February. Saludos.
1/10/09 Here is the first of the three new songs, The Common Law. It is about 20% produced and does not contain the final voice or guitar, but its working pretty good. I say that of all my songs, but its just that Luis does not stop surprising me. This feels like a great year. Join Me. Let's triumph together.
I'm also very exited because Luisa is almost fiished with the cd design. The artwork meticulously captures the images of my lyrics and forewarns the listener to what is to come. See them below this Diary. These will have some minor modifications in the final proof. Great job Luisa, THX.
1/1/08 I will be playing at two places in downtown San Diego this January, at the Bare Back Grill on Tuesday January 13 at 7:30, and at Bondi on Sunday January 18 at 3:30. Both locations serve food, are free admission and minors are allowed. Other local musicians will also play. Come join us.
Best wishes to all of you this 2009. Be strong, be ready and may you triumph in all your plans.
12/21/08 Things have changed in my life. My mother passed away on Dec 17 and as a result of that I decided to add three more songs to the cd before its released, Remember When, about life after death, and En Mi Mente Siempre Estan, about my childhood, my mother and my first son. We are going to work on all of them at the same time and plan to have them completed by the beginning of February.
11/27/08 Finally, the cd is complete. Cafe Peyote - Now Open is the title of my first cd. All I'm waiting on now is the cd design and duplication. It took about 2.5 years, but it has been worth it. Ricardo.
11/8/08 I'll be playing at Desi N Friends on Tuesday, December 2 at 8:30. I hope you can join me.
We are doing the final cd master for printing. It will be available for sale most likely by the end of the year. Cafe Peyote - Finally!
10/25/08 The concert was cancelled, but a child was born. At around 5:13 PM I saw the most incredible delivery you can imagine. Within 30 minutes of arriving at the hospital, Eva gave birth to Adrian. The Show Goes On.
10/17/08 Some additions have been made to Tribute, in particular at the end. What started as a song with just voice and guitar has been growing into a full blown project. We are considering adding a bass, which has not been introduced.
I'm scheduled to play at The Bitter End this coming Thursday, Oct 23 @ 8:00, but my wife Eva's delivery date has been moved to possible the 24th, so at this point I'm hoping I'll be able to play. If you plan to attend, please call me before going so I can confirm I'll play. I'd hate to see you go without me playing, although I'm sure the show will be worth watching, and there's no cover. Hope to see you there.
10/12/08 Luis has added a 12 string guitar to Tribute To The King. It gives it a Greg Lake, Emerson feeling, very nice. It is about 70% complete. Saludos. R
10/8/08 Finally, I have recorded the last song to complete a cd. Luis is doing final arrangements. Here is a taste.
9/26/08 Yesterday I recorded Tribute To The King, Intro. This completes a cd for distribution so soon we will have some available. Luisa Barajas, my niece, is developing my logo. It seems that the day is finally getting close. May my message make a difference in your life.
9/16/09 Here is Aelohim, final version. To all of you, with all my heart! Ricardo
9/14/08 Aelohim is now 85% complete, just needs final mastering.
9/5/08 I have uploaded Aelohim, at 50% completion. It is a dear song to me. I wrote it back in 1976 and I played it in a singing cafe, which was a typical scene then. I played, as always (I played there many times), Beatles and other songs, and then I played this one, and I told the audience that it was a song about God. It was a complete turn off.
This is a very profound song, and it addresses the division that religion has played in humanity. Is it not obvious that if we all believe in one God, what ever that may mean to you, that it is the same?
In the New Testament Jesus said, "The Kingdom of God is Within You." We are but a drop of water in the ocean we all know as God. May He save us all!.
Best Wishes. Ricardo
8/1/08 You Decide is finished, except for a couple of tweeks we might do. I'm very happy with my composition. Luis even cried while mastering. The lyrics are very critical and strong, but we have to comfront ourselves. In today's world, we are all hoping for the best, but it seems, the worst is yet to come. Be strong, be ready!
The Beatles and other musicians were right, All You Need Is Love. It's that simple. The question is, can we change those that only love themselves? Ricardo
7/31/08 Another gig has come up, this time downtown at The Bitter End on Thursday October 23, from 8:00 to 8:30 PM. It has a basement stage and dance floor and very nice bar. I've asked Luis and Paco to join me, but they might not be able to. We'll see. Should be a lot of fun, many songs to play.
7/17/08 Great news, I think we just produced our best song so far, at least I think so, in particular because I wanted to have a good long guitar solo, and Luis really took it to the edge.
We don't anticipate any additional instruments, but Luis still has a lot of work to do to finish with the master, which will balance all instruments. It would say this version is about 85% complete. Believe me, you will note the difference. Luis never stops surprising me. Best wishes.
7/13/08 I have a new gig, at the City Heights Farmers' Market on Saturday July 19, 2008 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM and again from 11:30 to 12:30. It is located on Wightman Street, one block south of University (east of freeway 15), between 43rd and Fairmount. Here is the Map .
6/24/08 Excellent news, amigos and amigas, I have confirmed another gig downtown at Dublin Square Irish Pub on Monday August 25 at 9:45. It will be mostly, if not completely acoustic, about half an hour. I was there yesterday and it's a fun place to be, probably 60 people there. I hope you can join me (and don't forget Desi's - see prior entry).
I think my public exposure time has finally arrived. Excited is not the word for it!
6/23/08 I will be playing again at Desi N Friends on Tuesday July 8, around 8:20. It will be acoustic only. If you can join me, I'll see you there. Thanks for your continued support.
And to show my appreciation, just tell me what you want, is it only money, or is there more to life? You have to make up your mind (from You Decide -- Check it out).
6/22/08 I've recorded the vocals and guitar for You Decide. Vocals still require effects and overal balancing. Song is still about 30-50% complete.
6/18/08 Man, Luis has come out with something outstanding for our new project, You Decide. It is in three parts: 1) Good & Bad, 2) No Tolerance, and 3) If Only I Could Draw. Part three really blows my mind, and this is just the first version out of a possible six! Guitar and vocals will be replaced for final version. Enjoy!
6/15/08 The gig at Desi's went well. Thanks to all who showed up. I've been talking to several other persons about doing some other gigs and something might come up soon.
I recently met an excellent and multitalentent musician by the name of Armando Ming ( Jazzming ). Hey plays keyboard, bass, guitar and sax, and is very good at it. Armando is also a composer and arranger.
We have began working on one of my songs, Life Is A Road, and are hopeful to continue developing others. I will be uploading the song as we progress at Café Peyote Acoustic . There is a possibility that we might play together at some venue in the near future so please keep in touch so you can join us. Saludos. RB
5/16/08 Cathryn Beeks of Listen Local invited me to play at Desi N Friends on Tuesday June 10 @ 8:00. It will be a 20 minute jam, with others doing the same. It is called Couch Sessions, so it is a very relaxed atmosphere. Here is the link to
Desi's .
I hope you can join me. If this goes well, there are several other venues that I might play. You can say that this is my debut in San Diego and the Club scene, a first for me (man at 51, who would have thought?)
5/15/08 I Want To Be With You is finished, and it sounds great. I think that of all the songs produced, this one could be my Evil Ways (song that propelled Santana on the top 40). Everyone that has listen to it has given great reviews. Enjoy, I know I am!
We already recorded We Decide. Luis is excited. The song has very strong language, against those who control and about how we allow ourselves to be controlled. Divide and Conquer - that has always been the trick.
The next project will be Aelohim, a conversation with God.
4/12/08 Two new projects have developed. First, my nephew Guillermo Morfin, of Via Mushgó and I will begin working on Obsessions Of The Mind, a song about male sexual obsession.
I also recently met seasoned musician Jorge Camberos, originally from Tijuana, Mexico, and now a San Diego musician with his duet Chini and Camberos . I have shared with him my song Remember When, about life after death. He has a unique flamenco-like style that I think will bring profound sentiment to the lyrics. You can listen to both songs at Café Peyote Acoustic .
4/11/08 Things are moving along. We recorded I Want To Be With You
last week and Luis already has added the bass and piano. This and the next song will be much less elavorate than all our prior productions. I'm very hopeful that things will continue at this pace so we can finish a cd by the end of the year.
4/1/08 Finally, we have completed Stay With Me. I am very pleased with Luis' production. Hope you enjoy. ¡Gracias Eva!
1/25/08 I've recorded the final voice and guitar for Stay With Me . The voice will be provided some effect for the final version. Probably this week Paco will record the final drum beat and Luis will begin adding guitars and other ideas. Song is about 35%. Best wishes to all.
1/17/08 The band finally played together. Great experience, but much to work on. We will play again at El Cotorreo on Saturday, Jan. 26. We hope you can join us.
1/6/08 The year has started great. Today Luis sent me the first draft of Stay With Me. I'm very happy with the direction it is taking. It's about 20% complete. Some keyboard instruments will be replaced with guitar. To listen to it, got to Café Peyote Acoustic . I'm hopeful we will have it finished this month.
It appears that the three of us are finally going to be playing together sometime within the next two months at El Cotorreo in Tijuana. I hope you can joing us once we start.
12/9/07 Yesterday we were finally able to record our sixth project, Stay With Me. The foundation is set and Luis will begin producing this week. I'm hopeful that we will have it done within 2 months.
Yesterday was also my first time playing our demos together, although Luis was only a spectator. We played in El Cotorreo club in Playas de Tijuana. Luis and Paco play in a band there every Saturday night, so I might begin to play once in a while, which will give me much needed practice playing in public.
8/11/07 Luis just sent me the mix for Joe, although I'm not sure if its the last one. Sounds great to me!
I've been invited to play at the Rolex US Sailing Men's and Women's Championship Regatta reunion at the Southwestern Yacht Club on September 14th. It should be a lot of fun. It has a beautiful view of the Point Loma marina.
I want to thank Jorge, mi official photographer, for all the photos he took at the Casa De Los Sueños concerts, and which help give life to my page. He and VÃa Mushgó team Claudia "Iaia" and Guillermo MorfÃn are going to El D.F. to try out their new material and to finally claim the success they deserve. Best of luck to them. Check them out in my Friends Space section.
7/14/07 I have come up with a preliminary logo for Café Peyote, based on a photo of the top of the catcus. I placed it in the slide show. I sent that and many other designs and ideas to my good friend Tito Cantú, an excellent drummer and artist, to design the final version.
Luis has been slow with Consumer Joe, but we expect it to be finished shortly. I finally seem to be getting closer to talking to a famous US producer who has heard our music and might help us get the project moving. Wish us luck Amigos!
6/15/07 Luis has done some adjustments and added additional instruments to Consumer Joe, which I uploaded. It's sounding great. I recently played again in Tijuana at the "Casa De Los Sueños" cafe/theater. It was excellent. The finished songs where well received.
I'm starting to learn how to set up all the required equipment; I even made a list to make sure I don't forget anything. So you understand, I'm talking about 39 items that I need to have handy in order to play and be prepared for any unexpected set up issued based on the location.
I'm also defining my personal style, like how to dress. Luz, Claudia and Jorge came out with some great suggestions and I think they're going to work fine.
Another thing is that I always sang while playing the guitar, and now I need to find a singing/moving/dancing style when I go solo. I'ts going to be interesting. My playroom (1 car garage) has become my stage, washing mashine ... and noise included.
Although I played in public and larger groups many times before, it was always someone else's song, so this has been a new experience for me. Strange, because I play alone, no musicians backing me up, only Luis' full production of instruments and rhythems by Paco, but still alone. I'm eager for the day that this project will take off and we will establish the band to take it to the concert level. We'll need at least 5 or 6 musicians to play all of Luis' arrangements.
I CAN'T WAIT!!!!
I'm enjoying the road to what I am sure will be my destiny. Best wishes. All my love. Saludos, besos y abrazos. RB
5/11/07 Once I reached the 4 songs limit in MySpace with my finished demos I decided that I would no longer upload songs until I had them developed. I'm on my fifth demo, Consumer Joe, and I like this melody so much , my favorite so far (pinche Luis, ¡que cabrón estás!), that I'm uploading it even though it is about 40% complete. Vocals and guitar are without any effects yet so it sounds dry and the lead instrument for the solo space still has not been defined, but I'm sure Luis will give us a pleasant surprise. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Who is Consumer Joe? They've turned us all into Joe - Just keep on buying, they'll worry about the rest, even if they have to rape the earth in the process!
5/2/07 Luis has begun Consumer Joe and its sounds terrific, the potential of being the best one yet. Hopefully we'll have it finished within 3 weeks.
4/19/07 I have uploaded "They're Bombing Again Tonight." It is not finished yet, but should be shortly. Probably within a week we will begin work on "Consumer Joe."
4/1/07 We have completed "Ven Aca," a Spanish love song to contrast our prior projects, and have started work on "They're Bombing Again Tonight." A very strong political statement about our present times - and what appears to be our destiny. I'ts in our hands to change our course before it is too late.
2/27/07 We have begun work on "Ven Aca," my first demo in Spanish.
2/11/07 The final version of "I Don't Know" has been completed. Luis is going over another 25+ songs I've written to choose the next project which we will hopefully have within a month. I just finished a new song, "Stay with Me" and added it to the page. A little love song, for all of us.
2/3/07 Here is version 3. The drums have been added, but will be edited for final arrangement. The ending has been defined. All that is left at this time is the bass, the effects for voice and guitar, which was changed from my Ovation Legend to a 12 string guitar, and the final adjustment of sound levels. Saludos, RB
2/1/07 Luis has worked faster than anticipated. At this point we should have "I Don't Know" ready within 2 weeks. This second version on the site now includes some additional backup vocals, a new guitar arrangement and a revised ending, which is still in process of being finalized.
1/27/07 Here is the first version of "I Don't Know." Bass and Drum arrangements follow, together with the final ending.
1/14/2007 "Why" is my first completed demo. Luis and I are presently working on "I Don't Know" and I anticipate it will be ready within 1-2 months. The rest of the songs here are initial garage versions we are considering for future development. Please let me know your opinion, it really counts! Saludos RB
