Starting out above a recording studio off the Liverpool Road, The Angel, London in May 1996 with their first-ever white label 12" release of 500 copies. The DIY spirit of URBCOM was born, instigated primarily for fun,and a labour of love. As well as an essential channel of release for their own individual band-projects,recordings and concept-artist compilations. Promoted and marketed directly to a progressive, modern open-minded worldwide-audience. Combined with the exposure, and support from numerous music allies, writers, magazines / E-zines,DJ's and pirate-college radioshows around the globe. From the outset URBCOM chose to deviate, and take the bull by the horns, bypassing a cynical,corporate over-commercialised music industry. In favor of running and establishing their own independent production label with complete artist control. While still showcasing, encouraging, and working with other affiliated artists on the music-media-art-scene. Dedicated to producing new edgy,innovative electronic music. Journeying from modern new-wave indie-pop to hardbeat industrial EBM to ambient IDM through to uptempo vocal-electro-disco and the avant-garde.
Much less a record label, and more a movement of likeminded artists bouncing around new ideas,sound and thought.URBCOM are already known veterans within the global-electronic music underground. Continuing to attract,and introduce an ever-growing pool of newcomers from all corners of the world. After years of dedication to their art, and countless promotion on behalf of other artists,allies,networks.URBCOM has Survived againest all the odds,where most of their contempories have either shut-up shop or lost the plot completely.
