Fontana man dies in shooting at Riverside¢s Carlos O¢Briens The following information has been provided by the Riverside Police Department: Sunday, November 9th, 2008, at approximately 2:12 am, Riverside Police Officers responded to the parking lot of the 10100 block of Indiana Avenue, which is the address of Carlos O¢Briens, in the City of Riverside. There were reports of shots being fired, and that James Anderson Darnell, 36, of Fontana was injured in the parking lot. Officers located Darnell who had multiple gunshot wounds. Personnel from American Medical Response and the Riverside City Fire Department responded to the scene. The male subject was transported to Kaiser in Magnolia Avenue in Riverside where he succumbed to his injuries. James Darnell Anderson was pronounced dead at 5:24 a.m. according to the Riverside County Coroner¢s office. Detectives from the Homicide Unit and personnel from the Forensic Evidence Unit responded to the scene. Based on the preliminary investigation, consisting of statements and evidence located at the scene, Darnell was standing in the parking lot next to the vehicle he came in when he was confronted by an adult male subject who had just exited the nightclub. During a brief conversation between the victim and the suspect, the suspect shot the victim several times. The suspect then fled the parking lot on foot in a westerly direction. A search for the suspect was conducted however he was not located. Video surveillance footage from the nightclub and local businesses are being reviewed for possible leads.
