Cal Cunningham and The Repeat Offenders

We are now "The Repeat Offenders"

About Me

Cal and I have been playing music together for over 20 years. We met in the parking lot of "Hugo's Again", a club in Norwalk, CT, during a "Speedway Boogie" gig in 1984. (Speedway Boogie later became "Laughin Bones" and Cal would soon become their rhythm guitarist)We became fast friends, drinking buddies and musical cohorts. We played numerous gigs as an acoustic duo, playing original songs (written by Cal) along with various Tom Waits, Neil Young, Grateful Dead and Hot Tuna coversIn 1985 Laughin Bones opened up for the Jorma Kaukonen Electric Band at the Fore and Aft in White Plains, NY which lead to Scot attending Jorma's master's classes at the New School of Social Research in Greenwich Village.Studying with Jorma was watershed moment in Scot's musical life, as only studying with a mentor and idol can be. Cal and Scot continued playing in Cal's living room, and it was during this period that Cal's writing started to become more prolific and Scot started dabbling with the Mandolin. We continued playing together, even though we were both active in different bands. In the Spring of 1991 we played SONO Arts Festival in South Norwalk, CTWe've both had our share of ups and down over the years, Cal got divorced, Soot moved to Massachusetts with his wife and son, and Cal currently drives an 18 Wheeler cross country. Music is still a constant in our lives, but we dont' get many opportunities to play together. However, when we do see each other, our musical conversation picks up right where we left off. This past Sept when we attended Jorma's Fur Peace Ranch in Pomeroy, Ohio. Fur Peace Ranch is a truly special place that is a musicians haven (and heaven :) where both amateur and professional musicians can go and study with legendary musicians. It was a truly inspirational weekend for both of us.Art and I have been playing together in various configurations for almost ten years. We have done everything from acoustic music with Art on Guitar and me on Mandolin to acting as session players backing up Ulli, a local vocalist and songwriter. We have played everything from jazz and pop standards to classic rock, original music and top 40The Repeat Offenders came about when Chad and I went to see "Zappa plays Zappa" at the Bank of America Pavillion in Boston this past Summer. We realized that we shared a love of many of the same artists and decided that a power trio would be a lot of fun to put together. Art was the only possible choice on Bass.Seb hooked up with us when he answered an ad that I placed on craigslist looking for a drummerWe had our first gig at The Beachcomber in Quincy on Thursday, Feb 28th. Cal had never played with us before, and while Cal and I have been playing together, and Art, Chad, Seb and I had played together, the first time we had all played together was when we hit the stage at 10 at the Beachcomber. The results are found on the six tracks on this page.Scot

Who am I? Why am I here?

I created this page because the Iron Muffin posted a question about who has a myspace page. Rami's a good buddy and a musical co-conspirator so I figured if he had a webpage, Cal and I deserved a page...
