About Me

Born: Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Raised: Yabucoa Puerto Rico, by his grandparents, attended school there, learned to play guitar watching his uncles play, then returned to "los sures" brooklyn by the age of 11. His cousin (German Lebron) taught him congas and bongos. Two years later, inspired by bassist "Polito Huertas" decided to learn the upright bass. At the time the "Johnny Colon school of music" opened in El Barrio, and was then taught by teachers, Andy Gonzalez, Victor Venegas, Joe Santiago and self taught. By 14 he was performing with Marcelino(buba) Morales, former singer of the Bobby Valentin orq. and Luis Cintron's "orq.love" About a year later while performing with the Charlie De la Cruz Orq.,director Charlie Lopez hired Landy to work with his Orq. "La Nueva" replacing former bass player Joe Manny who worked with la nueva a few years before Landy. In the early 70's "La Nueva" was one of the hottest young salsa bands in New York and the Hoboken New Jersey area. There he had an oppurtunity to work alongside "Frankie Ruiz", Lefty Perez, brothers Willie and Nelson Moreno, Ruben and Billy brothers of Jimmy Bosch and Victor and Pedro Ocasio, cousins of "Hermanos Morenos." Who would've imagined those names would become well known theses days. Others: Sammy Lopez & Arcadio cholo Mantilla and Ramon Chino Casiano. Later Pichie Correa, Nelson Coto, Rafi Ramos. In 1979 his 1st recording was "Conjunto Constanza" with the hit "contigo no" former Orq. "La Nueva". He then recorded a second LP with them. From there, started working with others: Ray Jay, Cholo Rivera, Charanga America, Camilo Azuquita, Los Kimis, and others. In 1986 he formed his own band with former singer of the "Willie Rosario Orquestra" Guillo Rivera. Four trumpets and a baritone awesome combo, later joined Ernie Acevedo's conj. Imagen w/vocalists Willie Amadeo & Jr santos. Landy then recorded 2 LP's with Conjunto Imagen. Then went on forming a band with Willie Amadeo Then recorded 2 LP's with Willie. Not to long after, he continued to freelance, Moncho Santana, Viti Ruiz and many more!By the begining of 1994 Frankie Ruiz returned from Puerto Rico adopting Joe Manny, Charlie Lopez, and Landy to form a New york based band. They integrated Hector bomberito Zalzuela, Ite Jerez, Richie viruet, Victor Baro, Charlie Garcia, Mark Gonzalez, Papo Pepin, Harry Adorno, Danny Morales, Ruben Suarez, and Sammy Coto. He toured the world with them until 1998, then Frankie passed away. Landy went on freelancing with artists: Andy Montanez, Maelo Ruiz, Pedro Conga, Paquito Guzman, Celia Cruz, Jose Alberto ElCanario, Ismael Miranda, Anthony Cruz, Cano Estremera, Ray Castro's Conj.Clasico, Miles Pena, Pedro Jesus, Luisito Carrion and many more. In 2007 Landy went back to Puerto Rico met up with Willie Sotelo now pianist of "el Gran Combo," former band leader of Frankie Ruiz's orq. and recorded his new release "Claro y Conciente," very danceable salsa.
