:::END TRANSMISSION::
Hey there, how’s it going? How did you get here? Perhaps I added you as a friend, or perhaps you heard my music on a friend’s myspace page, at the laundromat, or even as muzac in an elevator (god I hope not). Whatever the case may be, I’m glad you dropped by. I’d love to sugarcoat it tell you that I’ve wanted to be a musician ever since I was in diapers, but it’s far from the truth. I grew up around music, and in fact had a family of musicians, but it wasn’t until my mid-teens that I would discover how much I loved to write, play and sing.
What I’ve found in music is a release… A release from everything the world throws at me, and a chance to throw something right back. I’m sure as many of you can attest to, life can be difficult and (for a lack of better terms) can really suck sometimes. The funny thing is, many of us feel like we’re in all of this alone. I tried to reach out to a friend once who was going through an awful tragedy at home. The only thing she could manage to scream out was that I had no idea what she was going through. Little did she know, we all have heartache at one time or another.
What her, and most people don’t know is that when I was just barely a teenager, I lost my older sister in a car accident. Shortly after our loss, my mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, as well as several other debilitating diseases. And not to add insult to injury, but my father went to prison for several years just a few months following. Needless to say, this was a very trying time for my family and I to go through.
What I discovered about myself during this time is that no matter how strong I thought I was, I couldn’t face everything alone. Although I did have family and friends to turn to, sometimes that just wasn’t enough. It was then that I discovered just how powerful music was, and that it was the best outlet I could ask for during tough times.
With my upcoming album, “Pieces On The Floor,†I wanted to take listeners through that journey with me. I wanted to share all different parts of my life ranging from love to hardships, fantasies to realities, and everything in between. I wanted to expose myself for everyone to see, and let them know that they’re not alone.
With that, I invite you to listen to the first single off my album, “On My Own.†This song is particularly special to me because I wrote it when I decided I needed a fresh start, and that it was time to make changes in my life. I had made the decision to move from my hometown in Virginia to New York City, and 4 weeks later I had my bags packed and was on my way to pursue a music career. I wrote this song on the bus ride up, and hope it really inspires all of you to follow your dreams no matter how much people try to bring you down or discourage you. This song is for anyone out there who just needs a little pick me up.
Thanks for checking me out everyone, and check back often for information about upcoming shows and my album release later this year. Take care of yourselves and don’t forget to live your life.
