About Me

A rhythm section veteran with almost 14 years experience, Andrew Neely is a versatile bass player comfortable in a wide variety of musical settings. A resident of Omaha, he owns and plays 4, 5 and 6 string electric bass, acoustic bass guitar and upright bass. He is currently excited to be a member of the established jazz/funk/jam rock band Rhymes with Orange.---Music Background---A native of Memphis, TN, he grew up around blues, rock and improvisational music. A founding member of the still-active Yamagata he has toured the Southeast and played on their debut recording Eveland. After leaving the group on good terms to tour as a spoken word artist (including a leg of Gary Glazner's Slam America bus tour) he returned to the Memphis nightlife playing various gigs including R&B, funk and reggae before leaving the city to move to Omaha, NE in 2002.---Omaha Music---Since relocating, he worked as a founding member of Lord Byron Blues Band for three years playing electric and acoustic shows until that group's breakup in late 2005. He has worked as a member of the Thursday night house band at the Downtown Blues Club for 7 months and continues to book shows with that power trio, now called 3rd Leg Band.---Spoken Word---A nationally ranked spoken word artist, he has toured around the US and performed at the PSI Nationals with three teams, serving one from Omaha as captain in 2004. Semi-retired from PSI competition, Andrew Neely still co-hosts the weekly spoken word/comedy/music open mic show "Shoot Your Mouth Off II" at Shea Riley's Pub in Omaha with fellow Omaha poet Jim Morrison and sound man Josh Tague.
