Sally Barker

I'm a singer/songwriter and toured successfully through the 90s both solo and as a member of the Poozies all girl folk band. I slowed down, leaving the Poozies, to have 2 children with my farmer husband. We both subsequently suffered ill-health. I was unable to sing for a year due to recurrent throat infections, which culminated in the removal of my tonsils. My husband initially survived cancer, but died in August 2003 when it returned. ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------Music became an academic pursuit for the next 4 years as I studied at de Montfort University for a degree in Music Technology with the occasional gig squeezed in between bringing up the kids.------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------I graduated in June 2007 and have subsequently embarked on 2 projects. The first is rejoining the POOZIES. The second is called THE JONI MITCHELL PROJECT, which may be self-explanatory to some but is something I'm doing with piano and dulcimer player GLENN HUGHES to perform songs from the wide repertoire of herself. We premiered it as a 5 piece band at the Donkey Music Venue in Leicester on Saturday 17th November 2007. Dates playing JONI's songs (mostly accompanied by Glenn but occasionally with other musicians) are in and should appear in the gigs section.---------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------Spring '07 the Poozies returned to full strength as we appeared on tour as a 5 piece for the first time since the BBC's "Shetland Sessions". I was a founder member of the band, and as my singer/songwriter skills have been severely under-used over the past 5 years it has been fun to sing some of my newer songs to a bigger audience.--------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------Poozie world domination took a new turn in November 07 as Karen took the big leap and left the band to concentrate on her many solo projects. We were due to take another break as Eilidh is having another baby in March but Sally, Mary Patsy and Eilidh will be back on the road and out in force from July onwards with a new member as amazing young accordionist and piper, Mairearad Green is to augment the line-up.
