I'm Jason, 21, graduated from Jesuit Highschool in Beaverton, OR and attended Western Oregon University, in Monmouth, for a year. Currently attending Mt. Hood Community College for a degree in Digital Photography. I've been playing guitar since I was in 7th grade and almost gave up, but with influence, support, and advice given by those closest to me, I ended up hooked to my guitar and remain to do so. I'd only been playing for a year and never toke any lessons when I wrote my first song "Changes", which I feel isn't a relevant song now, but has had it's lyrics recycled into other songs over the years. I continued to write lyrics that still didn't have the feeling I wanted until one night I began writing a song and finished it the following night, entitled "The Road". It was the first song I put onto my myspace. (More to come!) "The Road" was the definition of shift for me. I began a new style of writing and have continued to push myself and meet the new standard ever since. It has become an every-day-challenge whenever writing, but whatever I produce, I fall in love with in some form or another. This shift in my writing has also allowed me to create a new way of expression for myself.
The Music: To me, the music creates the atmosphere--what the song is about, what feelings and emotions control the world that the song is in, and so on. It's really the "skin-deep" part of the song. Once a song is created, the lyrics process begins. But until then, my music has to have an active heartbeat that I can feel with every strum of the guitar. Only then will I be able to move on to the next stage in creating the song and only then will I know exactly how the song's supposed to feel. The Lyrics: To me, lyrics are the descriptions of the song. They're what reiterates the feeling that you will encounter while listening to the melodic portion of the song. A good analogy for lyrics and music is that a song is like a book: The music is the skin and the lyrics are the words in-between every page--both are crucials to the other ones existance.
I find support for, from, and in my music from people such as my Grandpa Haakinson R.I.P., my mom Penny, my sister Desi, my loving girlfriend, Megan, my closest friends and famous lyricists whose words have had an amazing impact on me that have carried me through my life so far! Thank you all for what you have given me. I owe you all so much for all your love!
