SUPPORT FREE PUBLIC SKATEPARKS! SKATERS UNITE!

I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm a Navy Veteran. I am the mother of two sons. After advocating, working, and volunteering, for four years, to have land allocated and get a concrete,(hopefully free)public skatepark, built in Kennesaw, Georgia (Swift-Cantrell Skatepark).... I became aware that there needs to be more FREE, Public Skateparks built throughout the United States and the world! Skaters of all ages, need a safe place to skate.Public skateparks should be paid for by taxdollars, just like baseball fields, soccer fields, gymnasiums, swimming pools, etc. At the very least, a town/city/county should provide land and work with the skaters to raise money and budget in some funding for a skatepark to be built. There seems to be a trend starting where land is donated by the local government, and the skaters and community do "grassroots fundraising" to get the skatepark built. This can take years to accomplish, unless the local government assists the volunteers! Local governments need to work with the skaters and actively help them get the skateparks built. They need to pay for a design, and budget in funding (from the tax dollars that are paid). There should be grants requested, other government agencies should be contacted for contributions such as state and county funding. The local government needs to look at the "grassroots partnership" as a committment to building a skatepark for it's taxpaying citizens. They should be active in the fundraising process, along with the volunteers. It's a partnership!Once the skatepark is built, it needs to be a FREE, Public skatepark ...especially when others helped the local government by raising money to build the skatepark!Concrete, FREE, Public Skateparks need to be designed and built by experienced skatepark designers and builders. There should always be a design meeting/workshop, where any skaters that want to attend, can participate in the design process of the skatepark. The Skating Community, Supporters of Skateparks, Skating Industry, towns/cities/counties/states need to network and work together to build more FREE Public Skateparks! SKATERS AND SUPPORTERS UNITE!

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

People that support FREE Public Skateparks...and people that help with the funding/designing/building of them...THE MISSION OF SUPPORT FREE PUBLIC SKATEPARKS IS BASED ON THE BELIEF THAT... All communities throughout the United States and the World should have a local FREE, Public Skatepark! A safe place for the skaters to skate! The skaters need to organize and start the process of having a FREE Public Skatepark built in their communities. Obviously they need the help and support of the parents, entire community, local businesses, Corporate Sponsors. the city, county, and State governments ...and MORE to accomplish this!We receive inquiries from skaters daily, asking us to help them build skateparks in their communities. We are asking people in communities to get involved and help these skaters. All these ballfields, soccer fields, and other recreational/sport facilities did not spring up over night, without the help of involved parents, businesses, and community support. If the local communities did not get involved. the kids that played baseball and soccer, would still be wandering around in parking lots, bothering business owners and residents.... getting chased off by the police....just like the skaters are forced to do now.Support Free Public Skateparks is a grass roots movement to make a difference. We want to support all that are willing to start and complete the process of getting a skatepark built in their communities.....and get the skaters off the streets in to a well designed, safe, FREE Public Skatepark. We invite all to help the local skaters in their communities and take an interest in helping the skaters have a safe place to skate. These are good kids and they need help getting their voices heard. Too often, I hear from skaters that went to their local governments on their own and were ignored and brushed off ...these skaters need help from the parents, business owners, and tax paying residents...(support from those that vote in their communities would also help!!).We all need to network and help each other. Join our groups (that are connected to our myspace page) and network with others that support FREE Public Skateparks and are trying to get a skatepark built in their community!Encourage your myspace friends to join our myspace page. Join our groups. Read our blog where we will post information about skatepark groups fundraisers and events. If you live in an area where you know there is a skatepark "process" going on ...volunteer, donate, sponsor ...whatever it takes to help them get a community skatepark built as soon as possible! If you live in an area where there is not a Free Public Skatepark ...start the "process" of getting one built in your community. There needs to be more FREE Public Skateparks built throughout the United States and the World! Skaters and Supporters of FREE Public Skateparks UNITE!!please encourage your myspace friends to add our url.. myspace.com/supportpublicskateparksThanks!
