1986 - 1989 Aspirin for Breakfast was formed in 1986, in Ulricehamn, Sweden. Prior to this, the members were involved in various local punk, new wave and hard rock bands. After a few rehearsals the band cut a demo containing three songs. One of them was a psychedelic little gem called “Longing for the Sunshineâ€. In March 1987 they played their first live gig at the local venue Clear Eye Club. From then on Aspirin for Breakfast played a number of gigs and did some small tours, mostly in the southern parts Sweden, often sharing the stage with – or being the opening act for – other bands like The Sinners, Union Carbide Productions and Pushtwangers. At the end of 1987 the single “Kiss the Flowers†/ “Damning My Role†was released on their own label Coloursound.
In 1988 they got a record deal with Rainbow Music and the 6 track album “Fairytales from a Pillbox†was released. The album got some excellent reviews and a fair amount of airplay, most notably a half hour slot in the Swedish radio program "Bommen", hosted by radio man Lars Aldman, the closest thing Sweden's got to a John Peel.
In 1989 a video of the song “New Clear Daze†was made – produced by a local TV station for a local hit chart – and a second album was planned, but by this time feelings of dissatisfaction and discontent had started to sneak in. The wildly diverse musical tastes and ambitions within the group were causing strains. After a final gig at club Valvet in Gothenburg, Aspirin for Breakfast broke up and the band members all went their separate ways. Guitarist Ulf “Garten†Abrahamsson joined the garage/surf punk band Psychotic Youth and Wish , while guitarist Mecki later showed up in the bands Sugarcoin and Imaginary Bones .
