Full Swing Ahead

This is a myspace page dedicated to all the small or regional bands that play the small bars and honkytonks, trying to live on $50 bucks a piece a night plus free drinks and sleeping in dive motels or in the truck when you can’t afford a motel.
Full Swing Ahead was such a band, a band from Carbondale Illinois, that played in small bars from Carbondale to Chicago, to Kansas City, to Kentucky. At the time, just a bunch of collage kids having more fun with the good times than trying to do anything serious with the music.
Full Swing Ahead played together for about 4-6 years, with various members. Some of the former members have gone on to make a decent career in music, Marty Muse who is one of the premier Steel Guitar players in Austin Texas and who has played with several people and now is playing pedal steel guitar for the Robert Earl Keen band, and Bob Egan, who plays pedal steel guitar for a Canadian band called Blue Rodeo, which was recently inducted into the Canadian music hall of fame. Dean Peterson settled in Minnesota, has a wife and 3 sons and and successful insurance business, but also still plays a bit on the side, and can still pick like the devil, probably better than most of the studio guitar players that are in Nashville today.

The tracks that are posted were recorded live at a bar in Kansas City many years back, digitized from an old cassette tape that was recorded off of the sound board at one of the gigs. Hope you enjoy them. It would be great if Full Swing Ahead could actually get back together for a reunion someday, but probably unlikely given the busy schedules of all of the former members…. But who, knows, maybe someday….
