Mark Cole

About Me

A powerful, passionate vocalist, Mark also plays a pretty mean harp, honest uncluttered slide and rhythm guitar, and loves experimenting musically with other instruments and found objects. His many talents keep him in demand at studio sessions covering all types of roots music. Both in the studio and on stage he has played with or supported a great many artistes including Pinetop Perkins, Willie King, Kent DuChaine, Alison Moyet, Dr. Feelgood, Chris Jagger, Roy Wood, Ian Dench (EMF), Steve Gibbons, Mike D'Abo, Phil Beer (Show of Hands), the Gutter Brothers, Richard Thompson, Australian blues maestro Mojo Webb, guitar legend Alvin Lee (at the Glastonbury Festival in 1994) and Chicago Blues legend Eddie C. Campbell. Over the years he has received critical acclaim for his vocal performance and songwriting which has been described as having "a quality and professionalism that sets it apart from so many" with an "assured melodic delivery and ability to constantly impress" (Rock 'n' Reel magazine). He writes songs across many styles both for the bands that he plays in and other performers.
The four tracks here span across the last ten years and highlight Mark’s writing diversity: ‘Come On’ was written as the background music for a pole-dancing club scene for a low-budget American road movie, ‘Sky Fell Down’ was written for Mark's own roots rock band the Dockery Boys and ‘Make Up Your Mind’ was written with Dave Edmunds in mind. ‘When She Went Away’ was written as the result of love lost and the realisation, too late, of what went wrong. Visit Rawtone Records or the Sons of the Delta MySpace page to hear more of Mark's songs.
Mark was the front man with renowned roots rockers the Dockery Boys and currently plays in international blues duo/band Sons of the Delta and the Maxwell Street Blues Band. He also has a solo show which features a range of instruments including guitar, harmonica, mandolin, electric lap steel guitar and the Lowebow - a crazy four stringed cigar box guitar he bought from Johnny Lowebow during one of his trips to Memphis.
