About Me

My name Devorah, or also known as Deborah, is derived from the Hebrew word, "dabar", which means "to speak"; or "to declare".
My name is also the same name for given to the honey bee. Psalm 119:103 - How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
The prophet Ezekiel reports that he tasted after the scroll full of lamentations that God gave to him. Ezekiel 3:3 - Then He said to me, "Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it." So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.
Manna tasted like honey-wafers, and manna also showed the glory of the L-rd. Exodus 16:31- The people of Israel called the bread manna. It was white like coriander seed and tasted like wafers made with honey.
So, just as the honey bee brings forth the sweet honey, this is similar to the Word of God.
I am married, a poet, singer, and a judge for Israel. I became a judge for Israel after Ehud died, and did evil in the eyes of the L-RD. For twenty years, King Jabin of the Canaanites oppressed the Israelites, and they cried to the L-RD for help.
The L-RD appointed me to be the judge of Israel.
For it is written: Judges 2 verse 16 - Then the L-RD raised up judges, who saved them out of the hands of these raiders. 17 Yet they would not listen to their judges but prostituted themselves to other gods and worshiped them. Unlike their fathers, they quickly turned from the way in which their fathers had walked, the way of obedience to the L-RD's commands. 18 Whenever the L-RD raised up a judge for them, he was with the judge and saved them out of the hands of their enemies as long as the judge lived; for the L-RD had compassion on them as they groaned under those who oppressed and afflicted them. 19 But when the judge died, the people returned to ways even more corrupt than those of their fathers, following other gods and serving and worshiping them. They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.
I rendered judgments and held court under the Palm of Devorah, which is located between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim. The Israelites came to me to have their disputes decided.
One day, I sent for general Barak from the tribe of Naphtali and told him that the L-RD commanded him to take 10,000 men from the tribesof Naphtali and Zebulun, and march to Mount Tabor. The L-RD told me that he would lure general Sisera, the commander of Jabin's army, to the Kishon River and deliver him and all his troops into our hands.
Barak told me that if I would go into battle with him, then he would do it. Or else, he wouldn't go. I was amazed at this, and told him that I would go into battle with him. But, because of the way he was handling this, I told him that the honor of defeating Sisera would not be his. The recognition would be given to a woman.
When we were up on Mount Tabor, I said to Barak, ""Go! This is the day the L-RD has given Sisera into your hands. Has not the L-RD gone ahead of you?" So Barak went down Mount Tabor, followed by ten thousand men. At Barak's advance, the L-RD routed Sisera and all his chariots and army by the sword. Sisera abandoned his chariot and fled away on foot. Barak pursued the chariots and army as far as Harosheth Haggoyim. All the troops of Sisera fell by the sword, not one man was left.
Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Yael, also known as Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite. The Kenites are descendants of one of Moses' brother-in-laws, Hobab. She invited Sisera into her tent, put a covering over him and gave him milk to drink, when he told her he was thirsty. This made him sleepy as he was exhausted. She drove a tent nail through his temple and he died. This fulfilled my prophecy to Barak, that the honor of Sisera's defeat would be given to a woman. Later, Barak was in pursuit of Sisera and came to the tent of Heber and Yael, and found him dead.
It was on that day that God subdued the Canaanite king, Jabin before the Israelites. The Israelites grew stronger and stronger against Jabin until they destroyed him.I am called "the mother of Israel". Basically, all the village life in Israel was non-existent until I arose as a mother of Israel, placed in this position by the L-RD.
After my victory over Sisera and the Canaanite army, there was peace in the land of Israel for 40 years.
