In the Summer of 2004 former members of FROZEN TEARS (1997-1998) and NOAH’S FLOOD (1994-2000), together with Sergey Dronkin (ex-author and host of a TV program TERROR ZONE), create a project titled NOTHINGARIAN. First songs were made in a near heavy metal style. Later it was decided to make the sound more heavy and brutal. It was also decided to find a new name which would sound similarly both in Russian and English.
The new name - PHLEGETHON - was borrowed from Greek mythology. It’s meaning conveys the general atmosphere of the band’s musical tastes.
The basis of the PHLEGETHON sound is mid-speed old school death / doom metal. It is milder than classic death metal, as a result the epithet “southern†is added.
Together with the title the general conception of texts also changes. They now concentrate on mystics and esotericism.
In spring 2006 demo CD “BENEATH THE BATHOS†is released. It consisted of 4 tracks, inspired by masterpieces of Lovecraft.
Active cooperation with poet Georgy Arystamyan led to the decision of creation a Russian language project Izgoi.
In summer 2006 Sergey Dronkin left the and vocals are performed by bass-guitar Yuri Kan.
