David Segrest Jr.

At a young age, David, fell in love with music from playing the piano to singing in choir to listening to his uncles pick and sing around a campfire at the deer camp. He grew up listening to the ballads of Marty Robbins to the love songs of Jim Reeves and Ernest Tubb to the story songs of Johnny Horton. While at Texas Tech, he took several creative writing classes and found that he had a passion for writing poetry. He started playing the guitar and putting his poetry into song. Eventually life experiences from heartache to happy times to all the adventures in between gave David material to create stories through song. One of his best friends, Jonathan Grammer, urged David to start performing his music in front of an audience. With much persuasion, David started playing the Lubbock bar scene with Jonathan and his other friend Matt Jackson, in a band known as the Cold Front. He enjoyed performing on stage but realized his energy was focused more on his song writing.After graduating, he worked the next couple of years at Texas Parks and Wildlife, worked as a South TX hunting guide, and ranch hand, while still working on his music. He moved back to Lubbock to obtain a masters and started playing the Lubbock bar scene again, but focusing more on developing his writing. In the Spring of 2001 David recorded his first CD "That Album," a nine song acoustic set with the help from his buddy Peter Dawson. After getting his masters he left Lubbock moved to Austin and then eventually ended up working on a ranch near Junction, TX. While on the ranch, David decided to get serious about his song writing and started looking for a producer to record a 2nd CD. David moved back up to Lubbock in the fall of 2005 and recorded a full band CD “Jumping the Tracks” with Don Caldwell Studios. Al Perkins, who played steel guitar and dobro on David’s CD, described his music as “old school country and a new edge.”In April of 2007, David recorded his 3rd CD "Directions," a seven song acoustic set, which focused more on his personal journey through life.Currently he is working on a new album to come out in summer 2009.
