About Me

- STRANGELY ATTRACTIVE IS SEEKING A FIFTH MEMBER -
We are seeking a talented, solid, and dedicated female 2nd/rhythm guitarist that can occasionally throw down on the keys. Of course, if you are both equally talented in guitar and keys, that would be awesome, but not necessary. You should also be able to sing background vocals.
Please reply if you think you fit the bill. If you're interested we can talk further. Thanks!
Strangely Attractive is a hard working band hailing from Los Angeles. The band formed in mid 2007 with the sole goal of throwing out catchy pop rock songs that you’ll not only find yourself uncontrollably bobbing and swaying to but then can’t get out of your head the next day.
Their sound is rock rooted in new wave, alternative, and afterpunk containing a huge mellow pop sensibility played by musicians strongly influenced by electronica, hip hop, trip hop, break beat, disco, dub, and jazz. As much as they love writing and laying new material down in the studio, the band truly shines when on stage, in front of an audience, playing their energetic and infectious live shows.
Being that each member of Strangely Attractive has some sort of Latin blood running through them, the four decided to use what they have and add that to their arsenal. They can perform two completely different sets, one entirely in English and one entirely in Spanish. Their recordings also share this same formula.
Strangely Attractive is made up of four core members:
Jupiter Amaya is the voice of the group. Her commanding pipes and dynamic stage presence made her a well recognized singer in the electronic scene in Colombia, where she is from. Having worked since high school as a studio vocalist, her vocals can be heard on major Colombian television theme songs, while at the same time, she has kept the party going at major concerts like “Fete de la Musique” while singing with bands and prominent Djs. She has graced the stages of major arenas while opening for such well known Latin artists as “Aterciopelados.”
Henry Bermudez, also of Colombian and Guatemalan descent, plays the lead guitar for the project. He adds a certain flair that mixes fiery flamenco, gut-wrenching blues, and balls-out rock. His tireless energetic performances will dazzle your ears as well as your eyes as he showcases his repertoire of skills on the six string. His hands are sometimes so fast, they literally become a blur as if they themselves turn into a part of the guitar.
Chris Gongora (Mexican and Spanish mix) keeps the low end down on the bass and pens most of the tunes. He has an undeniably fierce passion for performing. It is this intensity that makes every one of his performances powerful, exciting, and electrifying to watch. His original songs can be heard on independent features and he was the founding bass player for Atlantic Record’s “the Peak Show,” which was one of LA’s premiere trip hop bands. Besides music, he is also a television producer and high profile magician, having starred in and created shows for NBC (T.H.E.M. – Totally Hidden Extreme Magic) and MTV (Room 401).
Johnathon David Rodriguez is 19 years old and has been playing percussion since he was 11. In Johnathon's short music career he has managed to accomplish many things, from playing Carnegie Hall in NY at the tender age of 13 to playing with Gwen Stefani at the Anaheim Pond at the age of 16. The roster of artists John has performed and recorded for goes on and on. With the strong influences of funk, rock, and hip hop, he has definitely managed to surprise many musicians with his mature playing ability.
The five song EP by Strangely Attractive features the amazing live drum work of Tony “Digital-T” Austin and was co-produced, mixed, and mastered by Gabriel “Front Row” Rowland at Gabby Rowd Studios in Highland Park.
