Pastor Sylvester M. Truss was born and raised in Birmingham Alabama. He is the last of three children born to Pastor Sylvester and Jean Truss. He was educated in the Birmingham Public School System and graduated with honors from Ensley High School in 1997. Before accepting the call to the ministry, Pastor Truss had a very strong love and passion for music. During his tenure at Ensley, he was a member of the Marching Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band. He was also a member of the Concert Choir as well as an accompanist for the choir. Sylvester decided to nurture that love for music and further his education by attending Alabama A&M University in Normal AL. While matriculating at A&M, he was a member of the Marching Maroon and White Band, University Wind Symphony, and University Stage Band. Pastor Truss graduated cum laude in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. After graduation, he taught elementary music for Huntsville City Schools for two and a half years. Pastor Truss is married to the beautiful and vivacious Baraka J. Truss and they have a vibrant 21 month old son named Silas Marcel. The blessings of God have allowed Pastor Truss to serve several churches in the role of musician as well as minister of music. However, his ministry would expand beyond the musical aspect. Pastor Truss was licensed to preach the Gospel on September 16, 2001 at the Macedonia Baptist Church, Overton AL. In 2002, he united with Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church, Huntsville AL. where he was afforded several opportunities to preach. In 2008, Pastor Truss was accepted into the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He is in pursuit of the M. Div. degree. Pastor Truss received the commission the serve as interim pastor of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Elkton Tennessee on June 15, 2008. The interim was removed on September 6, 2008 and now he is serving effectively as pastor. Pastor Truss firmly believes that if you be good to God, then God will be good to you
