Bo Weevil & Rottin Cottin
This high energy band has been shakin’ the walls of juke joints in Maryland and Virginia for over three years. Because of the unique blend of rootsy blues, country, and early Memphis rock ‘n roll, they’ve decided to call their music “DownHomeabillyâ€. There’s no way to keep still when watching ‘em live or listening to this CD.
Recorded over two different nights at their local watering hole Venuti’s in Frederick, Maryland, LIVE captures the energy, jam, and DownHomeabilliness of their sound. Bo Weevil grew up in a musical family, spent 11 years gigging in Atlanta, and moved up to Maryland several years ago. He’s into his 18th year of gigging throughout the South and now the East Coast. He plays the acoustic guitar, is an avid fan of Travis Pickin’, sings, composes, and plays harmonica.
Brent Burgee hails from Frederick, Maryland. A natural to this style, he excels at both piano and the Hammond. If you have any appreciation for incredible keys, you’ll love Brent’s contribution to the Rottin Cottin sound. We miss Brent, as he has now moved on to Nashville. Please look for him out there with Blue Sky Traffic or Abbott Station.
The newest member of Rottin Cottin is Roy Brooks. Roy is an incredible picker with a fine library of licks and vintage guitars and amps. You can check out his myspace page for lots of nice pics. He has done a great job of filling Brent's shoes, and has been a real joy for us to play with.
Rick Jordan is the hardest working Doghouse Bass musician in the East. His driving rhythms and tasteful lines form the foundation of the Rottin Cottin sound. It doesn’t take you but 30 seconds of watching him live before you start shacking your head and say “How the hell does he do that???â€
Jon Danforth is the newest member of Rottin Cottin. An accomplished musician, he had played with Rick Jordan years ago in a DC favorite band “The Grandsonsâ€. After a long separation, he’s glad to be back with Rick completing one heck of a kickin’ rhythm section. “Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit!!!â€
These performances were captured by a portable hard disk recorder. Edited, mixed, and mastered by Bo Weevil in his studio.
