I received a kidney and pancreas transplant which fixed both problems. As you can imagine I am a big proponent of organ donation. Also, I am a huge advocate of diabetes education and prevention. Seriously, if you have a history of diabetes in your family and you have any of the stereotypical symptoms (sluggish and tired all the time, constant thirst, sudden unexplained weight change, constant need to urinate, unexplainable blurred vision, dry mouth) see a doctor and get tested. It takes a drop of your blood and a minute of your time to do a preliminary test. Trust me, it is better to know than to not know. approximately 1/3 of the people who have diabetes in America are unaware of it. Left unchecked, this disease will destroy your body.
