About Me

The strange case of the disappearing Spirits.Once upon a time, in the rural hills of Lancashire, england, a new college band emerged called Gnomus. Gnomus thrashed around local bars and clubs, refining their sound taken from influences such as led zeppelin, the who, and an array of heavy rock genres. Although you could hear the influences of Zep or the Who, this was no copy band.Original works emerged from the two main songwriters: Chris ‘Crazy Texas’ Peat, and Liam ‘Lémo’ Thomas. After a couple of years, the boys decided on a name change. They became the FreeSpirits, based on the belief that we all should free our spirits, and become unbiased toward music…listen to what you like, and like what you listen to…The band built up a sizable fan base, and played prestigious venues, including the Liverpool Cavern, and the Academy in Manchester. They released a couple of three and four track teasers for promotional purposes, and to send out to record companies, alas to no avail. Like so many young bands, success eluded them, and the rejection overwhelmed…ironically...their spirit. They decided to split, and go their separate ways. The decision to end the FreeSpirits, generated the idea of making one last album. That album would be named “hello goodbye thank you” a dedication to all their fans, and a fingered response to all who rejected them. After the ‘spirits’ final show in September 2007, the band went into the studio, to record, in my opinion, some of the finest written songs about how a band can be destroyed by rejection. The CD landed on my desktop for some constructive criticism and opinion. Then disaster struck. The master got fucked up by some dope heads in the mix down.I still have these tunes, and I am in the process of recovering the original master. Please take a listen; you will be amazed at the quality of their writing. The songs are directly off the mixing desk…with no add-ons.Ho, and the FreeSpirits are still free: Chris ‘Crazy Texas’ Peat, is now in a successful band called Exit State, and Liam ‘Lémo’ Thomas is plying his trade in New Zealand , along with his beautiful girlfriend Rachael.
