I love Hashem and I love video games!
I will begin posting videos in the 1st Quarter of 2009 dedicated to reviewing video games in the Past and the Present across various platforms and genres.
My Rating System:
Glatt - Cream of the Crop games. These games are superior games and worth purchasing and playing.
Kosher - Great games that are definitely worth renting and probably worth purchasing.
Pareve - So-so games. They are probably not worth buying, but they might be worth renting.
Treif - Terrible games. These abominations are not even worth renting, let alone buying.
I will also rate some games on a moral rating. These will not affect the overall rating of the game. This may give parents and others a better look at the game and another opinion besides the ESRB, though most moral ratings are based on the ESRB rating:
Glatt - These are morally superior games. Probably rated E by ESRB. These are friendly for all ages and families.
Kosher - These are morally great games. Probably rated E to E10 by ESRB. Friendly for mostly everyone and families. May not be suitable for small children.
Pareve - These are morally average games. Probably rated T by the ESRB. These are friendly for teens and adults, but parents may want to keep them out of the hands and viewing of their children. These games may be quite violent and have mild profanity.
Treif - These are morally bad games. Probably rated M or AO by the ESRB. These are not for children and probably not for teens. These are not family friendly and probably contain grotesque blood and violence along. They may also contain heavy sexual and drug references or uses.
A word about the rating system:
Glatt - Literally means 'smooth.' Refers to the lungs of a kosher slaughtered animal. For many only glatt is kosher for meat that requires it. In popular usage, it has come to refer to 'extra kosher'... specifically the smooth lungs.
Kosher - Fit and acceptable. This refers to food preparation. In popular usage, it has come to mean 'good' and is used often for non-food stuff. Hence its application to gaming!
Pareve - Neutral. Food that is kosher by nature and has neither meat nor dairy since one cannot mix the two in a meal.
Treif - Literally means torn. It referred to meat that was torn, whether by a nicked blade or some other thing that renders an animal unfit for food according to halakha (Jewish Law). In common use it has come to refer to any food that is not kosher.
