Born in “La Vacherie†a small village in Southern France in 1940, Richard quickly made a career for himself in the pharmaceutical industry thanks to his drive, determination and his ability to adapt to any situation as a chameleon. His career took him to all different parts of the world where he visited countless museums and art galleries turning him into an art connoisseur and aficionado.Argentina studies
His first stop was in Argentina in the late 1970’s where he discovered the works of Russo. Russo’s paintings acted as a creative catalyst, giving Richard the urge to become a painter. His first paintings proved to be very promising and his desire to improve his technique led him to the School of fine arts in Buenos Aires where he took drawing and painting classes. This is where he learned the fundamentals of painting and matured his brush stroke.Discovering Africa
Richard spent many years in Africa where he was exposed to tribal arts. When he returned to France in the early 1980’s he taught himself how to sculpt by copying African masterpieces. He spent much of his free time sculpting and painting but was not able to fully dedicate himself due to his highly strenuous and time consuming career.Dedication
After retiring as President of Aventis DOMA (Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America) in the early 90’s, Richard was finally able to poor himself into his art and passion.
This is when he met up with long time friend and fellow renowned artist Jean Pierre Le Boul’ch. He spent countless hours with Jean Pierre, learning different techniques and styles.
During this time he was also doing a lot of sculpting and tackled new materials, such as: marble, serpentine and drift wood.Adventures in art
Richard has been at home with the arts during his entire life and has always pursued his visions no matter the obstacles. His Eldest daughter explained that during the family travels, Richard had a habit of always taking home materials that local sculptors used because he was so inspired by what they did.
He returned from Anguilla with drift wood, Kenya with ebony, Brazil – soap stone and his youngest daughter recalls “We were on a trip to Zimbabwe in 1998 where we visited a sculptor village called “TengeNengeâ€, he was so fascinated with the way serpentine discolored with polishing that he decided to have 2 tons of materials shipped back to France so that he could work on ideas he had during the tripâ€.ExhibitionsRichard exhibited a series of his works during the 2001 art exhibition in the “Centro Cultural Recoleta†in Argentina In 2002 his works were presented during the International Art Expo in the Atlantic City Convention Center. He also had a one man show in Stockholm in 2003.
In 2005 He will be presenting 2 collections in Paris: “Turkish visions†and “Nude Impressions†(c.f. exhibitions).
