An incredible inspiration since first hearing his 2004 compilation "A State of Trance". His originals and remixes have an amazing atmosphere that sets them apart from the norm of European trance that keep you coming back for more.
Above & Beyond
It was only after buying "Shivers" that I realised it came with Above & Beyond's "Tri-State" album. My mouth was still frozen in a "O" of wonder after giving it a spin. They took electronica for what it was great at and melded it with the smooth Euro trance sound that has everyone hooked. Loved it from the start, and haven't looked back since accidentally discovering them.
Daft Punk
"Music got me feeling so free,
We're gonna celebrate,
Celebrate and feel so free,
One more time!"
The first song I ever heard on the radio in 2001 that had me coming back for more. It was different, it was original, and it was hella catchy. Come three years later, and I came across the song in an online MP3 shop. Then came "Discovery", probably the most listened to album in my entire collection. From then on I was inspired to follow their example. A year after rediscovering them, I purchased FL Studio and began my career.
Darude
Sandstorm is probably the only trance song I've ever played at a mainstream electro party and had the entire floor dancing to. Since discovering this classic I tried my very best to emulate the Darude sound, but it was impossible. His trance was so original and different, and it cut through the electro norm like a knife.
Infected Mushroom
In Australia you cannot go to any party without hearing an Infected song. In fact, any party that doesn't play it will be considered a failure. When I first heard their song "Cities of the Future" I was insanely hooked. It was more than psytrance, it was so original and gritty. I loved their sounds and how experimental they were with their trance. They pushed me to explore the sounds and synths I had and create something no-one has heard before.
Jaytech
It was with great pleasure that I found out that, to my amazement, the man behind amazing Anjuna tunes such as "Pyramid" and "Groove Nova" was an Aussie! His style stands out so much, and is one I would love to embrace more in 2009.
Sequentia
From about May in 2008 I was beginning to give in with standard trance. It was all the same to me. Then along came Sequentia, and rekindled my love of progressive uplifting all over again. His amazing riffs and racing beats kept trance alive for me, and inspired me to not turn my back on it.
Solarforce
It was a late night, and I was surfing YouTube in search of great trance. "Kaleidoscope" was the first song I had heard in a while that made me listen to it about 5 times over. Epic was an understatement. From there I went in search of more of Mike-S's songs. Every piece was as original and catchy as the last. He inspired me to look beyond the limits of modern trance sound and incorporate your own.
Anyone who has checked out or commented on my music is an inspiration. Without you, I am nothing. Without fans, music is nothing.
Sounds Like: Trance anyone? :P
