Dana Robbins grew up in Ann Arbor, MI., where music was very much a part of her life. She started studying piano at age four and saxophone when she was ten. Dana enjoyed the luxury of excellent junior high and high school band directors, each with extrordinary jazz band programs.Growing up outide Detroit, Dana grew to love R&B and the Motown sound. Also, her father, a University of Michigan professor who loved jazz and her mother, an accomplished classical pianist, showed her a wide variety of musical styles. She eventually studied music at the University of Michigan.Pursuing her love of jazz and blues, Dana left Michigan and enrolled in the Boston's Berklee College of Music. There she studied for two years.Dana took her ambitions to Los Angeles. In addition to performing with a number of wonderful musicians and bands, such as Tower of Power, Roger Daltrey, Phillip Bailey and Bobby Womack, she enjoyed seven years touring and recording with Barry Manilow. While on tour, she played soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones as well as flute and piccolo. Dana also worked on television as the band leader and music director for "The Chuck Woolery Show". While not touring, Dana joined a band led by John Mayall's wife and opened up many shows for the great British Blues artist.In the fall of 1994, Dana and her family moved to Nashville, TN., where she continues her musical journey. Nashville's thriving music scene has given Dana the opportunity to work with many great artists such as ARETHA FRANKLIN, Al Green, CECE WINANS, Rufus Thomas, THE O'JAYS, Bill Champlin, JOHNNY LANG, James Brown, JEWELL, Pete Townsend and Stacy Mitchhart & Blues-U-Can-Use. Dana also performs with the best of the private party bands that perform in and out of Nashville every weekend.Dana is currently in the studio recording her upcoming smooth jazz CD.
