Northern Lights Festival

About Me

Set in the stunning location of Durness on the most North Western point of the Scottish mainland the John Lennon Northern Lights Festival (with grateful thanks to Yoko Ono Lennon), held on the 28th-30th September, was a great success.
Durness was the location for many of John Lennon's childhood holidays, a place where he was truly happy and is believed to be the inspiration for the Beatles song 'In My Life'. He returned here with Yoko Ono and his children in 1969.
The festival was given approval, for the first year only, to use John's name from Yoko Ono Lennon (for which we are very grateful) and John's sister Julia Baird as well as cousin Stan Parkes attended and gave talks about John and his love of Durness.
A unique festival which included poetry readings, artist exhibitions and talks on John Lennon, it also featured Sir Peter Maxwell Davies' first public performance for 15 years, premiering a Beatles Prom with students from the Royal Academy Of Music.
It also featured appearances from King Creosote, Julie Fowlis, Donnie Munro, Nizlopi, Foxface, The Original Quarrymen, among many others.
