Izabela Buchowska

Izabela Buchowska, one of the Poland's young generation most talented cellists, received her first cello lesson at the age of twelve. After graduating from the Academy of Music in Poznan, Poland (prof. S. Pokorski, as. T.Lisiecki), she was granted a prestigious scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to continue her studies in Germany. While studying at the Academy of Music in Luebeck under prof. Ulf Tischbirek, she won the Musikhochschule Luebeck's Association prize. Since January 2008 she has been working with an acclaimed professor of cello Barbara Stein-Mallow at Mannes College of Music in New York and since 2009 she has been a part-time student at The Juilliard School in New York. Her other former teachers include such musicians as Kazimierz Michalik, Lynn Harrel, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, James Tocco, Ulf Tischbirek, Grzegorz Kurzyński and Andrzej Bauer. In Poland she was honored with the Talent of the Year award (2007) in the category of the antique muse Euterpe, as well as Rotary Club scholarship, Warsaw's Adam Mickiewicz Institute and City and Marshal of Olsztyn scholarships. Ms. Buchowska has performed at numerous music festivals, including famous Schlezwig-Holstein and Brahms Festivals in Germany and X International Chopin & Friends Festival in New York. She has cooperated with many orchestras, including: Schlezwig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, Richmond County Symphony Orchestra, Warmia and Masuria Philharmonic Orchestra, Kammerorchester Luebeck, Poznan Opera Orchestra, Chelsea Symphony. Contemporary music is her greatest field of interest and makes up a large part of the music she performs, with numerous pieces dedicated especially for her. Ms. Buchowska is a recepient of Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic Poland scholarship for a year 2009.
