My interests include: BROADWAY! (I am in love with most anything that touches theatre, particularly music), singing (in soprano or alto, depending on my mood), getting to know people (I like finding things out), reading (if only to get so involved in the story I begin to cry), acting (if only to get so involved in the story I begin to cry), talking (incessantly), and laughing (also incessantly).
I'd like to meet Stephen Sondheim, if only for a few seconds to tell him how much his music has entranced me, Angela Lansbury (she is one of my heroes), Terry Pratchett (he seems the type with whom I could enjoy an afternoon conversation, if he could stand me long enough), Mel Brooks (because he is hilarious ^^x), and my great uncle Avelardo.
The most amazing composer/lyricist whose work I've ever had the pleasure to hear has to be Stephen Sondheim. His Broadway melodies soar and dip and are filled with so many clever rhymes and rhythms that it is so addicting, albeit an acquired taste. My favorite of his generally tends to be whatever I'm listening to at the moment, and while I *do* like the gentleness of "Anyone Can Whistle", at present I am divided in the decision between "Sweeney Todd" and "A Little Night Music". Also, anything Angela Lansbury sings tends to catch my attention and hold it for forever. That is not to say that I don't listen to other music -- "Wicked" also has a special place in my heart, especially since Idina Menzel has such a great and beautiful talent for the passion in her voice. Last but not least, the music my director has been writing as of late; while it *may* be about equations and such, I hope I may be listening to it on an Original Broadway Cast album someday ^^x (that's loyalty for you).
About movies -- "Young Frankenstein" is definitely one of the top favorites, as well as "Singing in the Rain". I can't watch "Ray" without crying (which I believe is a sign of talent in a film) and "Kung Fu Hustle", as strange as it may be, *must* be watched in the original Chinese for the full and hilarious satisfaction. There are always more to be discovered from the past, present, and future though. Oh yeah, and "Rear Window" and "The Big Sleep" forever! I love old movies ^^x girls were much prettier, guys were soo handsome, and acting was perfectly toned.
^^x I don't watch as much television as I shouldn't. However, I do get to see a lot of "Law and Order" as it is one of my mum's favorites; other than that, I tend to watch a lot of cartoons. Mostly ones like "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" and "Codename: Kids Next Door". Oh yes, and "Monty Python's Flying Circus" whenever I can catch it (if only to unexpectedly surprised by the Spanish Inquisition!).
Most any playbook or script is fair game to me, although I must admit now that I am a great fan of the "Harry Potter" series, having read the last to books in less than a day each. Another series I follow is Mr. Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events", if only for the quirky way the narration is done. Finally, Terry Pratchett's wonderful collection of over thirty novels grouped together simply as the Discworld series (anything to do with wizards, the watch, or Death enthralls me. Or Vetinari. Or the press. Or the army.)
My mother is my greatest hero, followed closely by my little sister. My mother, with her determination and responsibility, has provided the perfect example; if I can end up to be even close to similarly applied, I will not have wasted my life. My darling sister, has helped to keep my "older-sister-ness" in check by showing me her vibrancy and giving me someone to talk to about what I love (as it's usually the same thing). Other heroes include my greatest friends (like, but not limited to, Mike and Mandy) who are always able to nurture my insanity gently while at the same time allowing me to have a social life where others would completely shun me. Finally, other than the aformentioned "untouchables" that are Mr. Sondheim and Ms. Lansbury, a few of my heroes have to include my long-time teachers Jan, Mr. Chen, and Mrs. Fagan, who've been listening for the past three years to the silly plights of this teenager and helping when they can.
