What do you do when someone promises you a rose garden and all you end up with is a sack of dirt and a trowel? How
about when you plan a nice parade and someone pisses all over it? Or when someone runs over your entire cardiovascular system-twice? You could cry about it.......or, you could cry about it and then write a song about it. Lori McKenzie and Inger Hansen are the acoustic duo "the almosts". From Canada and Germany respectively, they met somewhere in between in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Lori's a famed and illustrious classical singer in her old hood of South St. Vital who stepped over to the darker side of music when she met Inger in 2003. Inger was practically born with a guitar in his hands, and worshipped Angus Young of AC/DC for years before becoming a guitar god himself. Musically, the two clicked immediately, and they decided to dry their eyes and write some songs. The resulting music is comprised mainly of voice and guitar with a twist of piano and is straightforward, a bit rough around the edges at times, but honest. There's no gimmick, no commerciality, and no strings attached. If that's what you're looking for, then keep looking. If you like it, you like it; and if you don't, you don't. But if you don't, then we do feel bad for you, cause you will be missing your last chance at true melancholic happiness......
