A Letter for Yunah was formed 4 years ago by Xiaolin, Rjay and Jamal. They did regular gigs at Zaf Bar in Bacolod City. After a couple months, the band decided they needed a bassist and that’s where Jong, their former bassist, came into the picture. He was a schoolmate of Jamal’s and a very good friend of the band.
The bands first big gig was at Aftershock 2, a benefit concert for breast cancer patients in Negros. The production had a compilation of songs from local artists, that eventually reached some of the local radio stations in Bacolod. Yunah’s single, “You Remind Me of My Static Memories†eventually reached number one on the Indie Top 20 charts and stayed at that position for a month.
After the success of the band’s first single, their bassist decided to concentrate on his career and left the band. The band was lucky enough that Rolf, also an exceptional musician, decided to come home from Manila. The band asked him to jam with them and he said yes. Their sound evolved into what it is today.
The band, since their first gig, has fronted for bands such as Bamboo, Pupil, Rico Blanco and also fronted for the Siege Tour. They have regular gigs every month at bars in Bacolod but they still don’t fail to amaze the crowds.
Rolf and Jamal have graduated from college and are full time members of the band. Xiaolin is a college student and a production designer in films. Rjay works as an amateur film maker in Bacolod City and has recently completed a course at the Negros Summer Workshop under Director Peque Gallaga.
